Another thread for us to bemoan and celebrate NW, I never want to hear anyone saying they don't get their monies worth from these forums. :)

Absolutely do. They've really listened to the community as well, unlike so many MMOs.

Though many would argue listening to too many people and trying to mesh in content that caters to everyone, especially streamers and other loud people, is how the game became the mess it is in the first place.

Were you one of those who wanted this to be a FFA full loot PvP MMORPG ?

Without a doubt switching to also having PvP content at such a late stage did them no favours. I always think having both PvE and PvP makes for the best MMO, but it made the game look rushed out and they are still recovering from that.

Listening to the players is a perennial problem, which we have likewise talked about on here many times. On the one hand if the dev team just wants to sit in its ivory tower it can lead to issues which are never fixed, and players will vote with their feet. On the other hand, listen too much and players can ruin a MMO with their expectations. It's a tightrope to walk, I did think some of the changes they made were in the pursuit of easy-mode but returning players have mostly been in favour so I now think they struck the right balance.

Where I totally agree is that streamers should not be determining the direction of a MMO, hopefully that's not the case here.

Yeah the problem is that this game was originally going to be a pure PVP gankbox. Then they did a little market research and realized those don't exactly have the population to support the multimillion dollar budget of the game. I think we're still mid tire smoking donut to turn this thing around, but they do seem to be moving in the right direction. Pity they hadn't started here a couple of years ago because I think they'd be in a really good place. Seems like it has a good chance of getting there. Just going to take another year or two.

I dunno man, the combat is poor, the AI is god awful, the lore is pathetically underwhelming, crafting swaps from being god tier to worthless every couple of months. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks pretty but that just doesnt last.

Then theres the fact that theres little cause to do anything, it used to be you would work hard for sweet armour with great stats and looks unique but you can buy a set of pants at lvl 1 and look like a king and gear stats get messed up every time Amazon looks at New World.

I cant for the life of me see where this can go, its not a solid foundation, its pretty and that has a short shelf life, I cant see an Anime of this mess of what can only laughingly be called lore reinvigorating interest ala Cyberpunk which had an equally bad launch but still had an interesting core to build on and then theres multiplayer to come.

I could easily be wrong but all Amazon studios are doing is flailing right now and have been doing since they realized their lazily conceived "pvp" game wouldnt support a profitable playerbase so had to switch it up to get the whales in. The game needs new leadership and management and probable a whole new crew of coders as nothing about this game is impressive.

Peaked at 65k with Brimstone launch... that's not very impressive. We'll see where it goes this weekend but I think New World has had its last gasp of air here. We'll see how the fresh start servers go too in November. But those people interested in fresh start are the type of player to just quit again in a month or two, I don't really seeing it resurrecting the game.

Don't get me wrong, I think Brimstone is an amazing addition to the game but I'm a sucker for anything Roman.

The problem for me is the lack of a real end game. The mutation dungeons are an absolute blast but even they get a bit repetitive and old. Other than that, what is there? More chest runs? Just 100+ people running from chest to chest... it's terribly boring end game. PvP should be the real end game in a game like this but the way it's designed is just really piss poor.

The one thing AGS does really well, imo, is the world building. The world looks, sounds and feels amazing. The new Brimstone area is very well done.

65K is more then enough to keep the lights on. Is it the smash success it was at launch, no. Do they wish they kept that playerbase, yes. However, they make so much money off the cash shop from what I understand that New World is going to be around for a long time.

65k is not enough to cover the cost of the game and the cost per month. And you gotta be an idiot to be anything from the cash shop on a half based bot game. Not sure they make any good money with the cash shop.

What are people buying in the cash shop?  Nothing but crap in there from my view, and I normally partake in them, including Lost Ark, ESO, and FO76.

I don't know what people are buying but the devs said that they make a lot in Cash shop sales. I mean I think FO76 has a bad cash shop but people buy stuff in there by the dozens too. People like to buy cosmetics. Just becasue they aren't my taste or yours doesnt mean they aren't someones and all it takes is for a few whales to want to own everything for them to make a buttload

I guess...and the prices in it are pretty steep really, (makes ESO seem cheap) so if people want this crap I guess it could be lucrative.

I have seen quite a few players running around in the gold armor, but it's a bit fugly to my tastes.

FO76 has a great cash shop IMO outside of the Atoms I receive as part of the monthly sub or earn in game I've bought all sorts of great cosmetics for my camp and characters, never spending anything extra.

I quit playing this game many months ago, I just logged in to these boards for a second to reply to this comment. Keep the lights on? it's Amazon. I think they have the funds to keep the lights on.

The population in game for the west coast server I play on actually had queues. Brimstone is a fun free update and the Great Sword for DPS or Tank is a welcome addition for my game play. After I finish the new zone it is back to hunting rare items, builds, crafting, end game PvP, and Mutations. After many finish Brimstone I do expect the population to drop off as this is buy to play, this does occur for any MMORPG these days, or seems to be the case. The game has come a long way since release and has improved. I just don't think we will have 900k players any longer since release. I can't wait to see the network code for LOD\textures and streaming distances improve for this release as well as some bugs that popped up. Other than that the population on my server is healthy and the territory war continues. Can't wait for mounts and some quality of life improvements for the UI. Great update!
