You might want to rethink EQ2 as while old it cannot be run on a toaster due to the way the engine is coded to be CPU dependent ( as the idiots in charge at the time bet it all on GPU's being a fad and CPU's being 20GHz monsters in a couple years from launch ). Even with the tweaks they made over the years to use more GPU, you're going to have a bad time if your CPU sucks.

I'd say EQ2 pales in comparison to EQ1 in terms of performance and playability.  Why wasn't EQ1 included in this list, anyway?

Eq2 is not a low end friendly game. Even on a fx8350 and rx580 , it ran like a poop. On my current machine, it places max setting max frames. The game engine was design backwards as at the time they thought cpu's would continue to be main renders.

Earth & Beyond is a approved emulator by EA. It came out in 2002 and will run on a toaster. Be sure to look for E&B config tool in the game files to be able to run it full screen. This is a great space mmo. Look for net7 portal or .org.

EQ1, Ultima Online, the secret world, age of conan, the plethora of browser based MMORPGs, anything available on GeForce NOW... and of course, private Wow servers, running older clients will run on a calculator, and are crazy popular.

Oh... And you didn't mention EVE Anywhere in this post, which seems like the ideal place to do so... Did you even know it existed? Did you bother googling each of these to find out? Hmm...

To be honest, I could go on. But EQ2 is not easy on your PC. Were these games even tested? Or was this just a way to talk about games that hadn't been tagged in a blog post for a month or so?

Why not mention EverQuest? People need to put respect on EQ's name. It runs great on lower end machines and the option to play the Project 1999 version makes an even stronger case.

EverQuest is seeing a resurgence with their TLP servers. A new expansion was also just announced. And it's THE game that every other game has aped off of, just to exist. There's something alluring and charming about the game that started it all.

And again, EQLive, TLP servers & Project 99 all meet the requirements of this article by running great on lower end machines. *Much* better than EQ2 especially.

Also, everyone knows EQ > EQ2. Just because it's the second game doesn't make it the more "current" or relevant game.

Agreed 100%. EQ > EQ2 in every way but especially in the confines of this article's logic. Especially when you consider EQ's TLP servers and Project 1999 as available options when playing EQ.

EQ2 is a 20 year old mistake that should have never happened. Can we finally course correct? I mean, hats off to anyone that plays and enjoys it; do your thing. But original EverQuest is the real deal when it comes to player consideration of the franchise.

I'd add Star Trek Online to that list too since it doesn't take a beefy computer to run the game.

eq 2 is realy bad even nowadays their engine just sucks . The faster your cpu is in raw mhz the better for that game so it still runs very very poor with multiple cores cpu .

It will run but the bugs kill the fun of it.

People still play it so presumably the bugs don't entirely kill the fun of it for everyone.

Project: Gorgon is one of the most unique MMORPGs to run on a toaster.

Man I forgot all about eq2 doing that! One of the most bizarre things about that game really lol. I remember people being so mad they had these monster gpus and couldn't run it decently lol.

That being said, eq and eq2 both have had a lot of beginner friendly updates to help people play catch up, eq1 definitely being the better of the two but eq2 is more "current" with the way it plays compared to 1. Honestly i miss them both, ill have to play both and get caught up once i get the stories done in both gw2 and ff14.. too much backlog right now lol.
