I really enjoyed Crowfall when I played, unfortunately the fact that it's pretty much required you have a guild / group while trying to do any content past the like hour long leveling, is a bit frustrating for me as I like to solo quite a bit. Hopefully it will come back and have more options for what to do in the game in terms of progression.
I can't say I'm particularly surprised, the game wasn't very good. Admittedly, I only tried it during one of their beta weeks, but that was enough.
The combat was better than most other action combat mmos I've played, but it was still action combat and so I was bored pretty quickly.
The crafting / economy seemed pretty good (this was Koster's influence) but felt fairly grindy. It felt like the sort of system that would be great with 1000s on your server so that a crafting community could arise to serve everyone else.......but the game never got enough players to make that happen.
I liked the art style. The IP felt a bit generic but considering this was a crowdfunded game I think they did really well. The models were clean and easy to see, new gear was easy to spot on my character.
The eternal kingdoms.......??? Honestly, I never went there. I knew ArtCraft were pushing this feature, but after some 30+ hours playing the game I never found them, had no clue how to get there, had nothing directing me to go there, and never felt motivated to search it out by myself.
The PvP......what PvP? 30+ hours of testing the game and I never had a single PvP fight. I did the tutorial, got leveled up and then went looking but didn't find a single fight. Did I choose the wrong campaign? Was I playing at the wrong time? Was I on the wrong server? I spent hours wandering around the PvP zones and never saw a single person. I know that the keeps / outposts had scheduled times for attacking, and I was never online during those times, but still. Where was everyone?
On the subject of "it's a pvp mmo, of course it failed"......well, yeh. PvP MMORPGs never do well, the few minor successes like DAoC seem to have been flukes that the developers never really understood and thus cannot replicate.
But, I dont hold it against devs for trying. PvP is, by far, the most popular online gaming activity. Just not for RPGs. FPS's, MOBAs, fighters, hell, even racing games. Gamers love PvP! Other genres have mostly have figured it out, but the RPG genre never has. I personally believe this is because the inherited D&D style progression systems are incompatible with a massively multiplayer game, nor is it compatible with PvP.
Eventually, some developer will get it right, figuring out a way to blend RPG and PvP together. That developer is going to make a ton of money. We're just gonna have to live with some more failures like Crowfall before we get there.

This game created 0 fuzz after the release. But what people are saying is correct - a pvp focused mmorpg will not make it without the option to -not- get pulled into pvp if that is the way you prefer to play it. Ashes of Creation gets this - their node system allows everyone to contribute, pve and pvp
I’m watching this development from the perspective of an ex-Boundless player. I wonder what Monumental will do with that neglected game. Was Crowfall in a worse state than monumental anticipated? It makes me more confused as to their motivation in buying up these failing games.

I hope they fix whatever needs fixing. This is a pretty unforgiving community, so I'm not sure how well it'll be received if it ever does come back online.

It will be received according to its quality. A forgiving or unforgiving community has nothing to do with it.

I am going to say, without a doubt, all of those things.
If you never left the world you joined and leveled to 30 in, you never played the actual game. God's reach was essentially the tutorial zone. Most of the gameplay was well after 30, and in the Dregs guild vs guild campaigns.
If you played a week of open beta, it's possible you played during a time when a patch had already been thoroughly tested by most regular players, so they took a break.
There were castle and keep sieges which regularly fielded 200+ players all but 2 days of the week on average, plenty of Youtube videos.

I disagree. How many posts has said 'I'll never trying anything they ever put out again' or some variation. I've said I decide based on the game itself, which to my mind is the right answer. You've been on here a long time. Have you not seen all the posts of someone having a bad experience and they painted these huge broad strokes. Never 'asian' never 'crypto' never 'blizzard' and the beat goes on.
Why does this game feel exactly like "Arche Age" with their fresh start servers / relaunch, like does Crow Fall really think that even if they relaunched the entire game people who already spent founders packages some of us have over 50 months VIP time still are going to want to give the game another shot if they are wiping all content ...

From the message I was emailed it sounds more like they aren't doing a server reset but hope to pull of a FFXIV. They mention reworking the game from the ground up and no direction is off the table.

I concur with the others about PvE. The lore and stuff interested me but I'm not interested in a pvp focused/only game. As I've said before on other games, I think the number of people who want a pvp focused mmo are less than the number of people that say they do, and I dont think that number is massively high to begin with.

Well, Embers Adrift is a PVE only MMORPG which is also suffering from a lack of players which is strange right, considering this is allegedly the larger potential player base.
Perhaps in both cases the issue isn't really what type of games they are, but rather the lack of quality or interesting gameplay which drives away potential customers?

"Crowfall took in more crowdfunding after the initial Kickstarter push. In total, it has raised $5.7 million through pledges. Outside of backers from crowdfunding, ArtCraft has brought in over $30 million more through technology licensing, distribution agreements, and previous investment rounds."
Over 30 million dollars and 5 years of development. If you couldn't make a game with that let's not pretend going back into development is going to actually be a thing.
This game is dead. Admit failure.

Why I am not surprised. Even tho the game concept wasn't that bad. Obviously it was niche, but it's PVP wasn't what killed it. It was stupid business model and inexperienced people behind the wheel
Look how they released. First they ran 10k tournament on closed beta and then on release they decided not to spend money on marketing, because...They thought it needed no marketing.
Their idea of business model was charge you for full title game and then ask extra money if you wanted to use basic features like resetting talents.
I would not be surprised if they released game and charge you again, because now it has "Reborn" in title.

The problem is 30 million is nothing when it comes to a MMO. They cost millions. Now a days hundreds of millions.
Ghostcrawler himself in a interview recently in a interview said that time was never the problem with making a MMO, at least the Riot MMO, its money. MMO's are the most expensive genre to make and maintain. He went on to say that thankfully Riot and in turn Tencent have so much money he doesn't have to worry as long as he is hitting his target goals every quarter when he shows them progress
I think one of their mistakes was trying to sell Crowfall as a MMORPG. It's not a traditional MMORPG, it's closer to Guild Wars 1 than to WoW/EQ/etc... And the performance of their engine... on the same computer, I had to drastically reduce settings in Crowfall to have decent FPS, while in New World, WoW or ESO I was running around with everything maxed out, and those games (including WoW) have way better graphics than Crowfall.
