CD Projekt Red is now giving Witcher 1 free through GOG.com

You'll need to subscribe to their newsletter to get the game, but you can cancel the newsletter immediately afterwards.

Witcher 1 was released in 2007, and its gameplay is bad compared to modern games. But it has 50+ hours of excellent story. So if you like gameplay then it's likely not a game for you, but if you like single-player RPGs with good stories then it's worth checking out.

    Have they remade Witcher 1 yet? I heard they were going to update it. Is it the "updated" game or the original?

    Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

    It's the original but enhanced version.  I think there a new remake on the way but not out yet.

    It's the original. Enhanced Edition was their update patch that was released about a year after Witcher 1 launched.

    I tried to say that "The Witcher: Enhanced Edition" is the original Witcher 1. They added "Enhanced Edition" to the name after one of their original free update/bugfix patchets.

    Cavill was really good, better than I thought he would be. I have always thought him a bit wooden and said, "this will be a great role for him as Witcher's don't have much in the way of emotions." I guess people thought I was having a dig, but it was a genuine comment, I thought this title like Superman would fit his limited range.

    But having seen the series I have to say he has shown a subtlety of emotion simmering beneath the emotionally muting effect of becoming in effect a mutant. So, he has made me totally reappraise how good he is as an actor.

    Witcher 1 combat was already really bad at the time of release, and it only got even more stupid and pointless if you raised the challenge level.
