It is not about images of axes and hammers; it is images of clubs and baby seals that gets the Idiocracy base excited.
I don't know about "images of clubs and baby seals" but images like these is definitely not something that gets me excited, especially after 9 years of the game being in development:

Axes and hammers on their own are innocuous. Cute baby animals clubbed to death, not so much. Images of actual people being killed with axes and hammers probably wouldn't go over too well either, especially not if they were children.
A negative response to that should be expected. To not see it coming would be idiotic as it has been going on for a long time now.
Like come on man is it that surprising I rank Camelot Unchained right up there with star citizen
A project that takes takes takes but even after years still doesn't have a finished product.
If it wasn't for this forum and mentioning the name here and there I would think they died cuz that how little I care to keep up with these kinds of things.
Not even. Star Citizen is a much more complicated project I think. The fact that CU is kinda following the same path as Star Citizen with the time and money begging beggers the mind.

Shame on Jacobs for what he's done the past 10 years.
