That game looks terrible and plays terrible. What a mess.
The people who founded that piece of crap must feel really bad now.
Pfft, I never commented on New World.
I dont care for graphics, beyond a certain point, and this IS beyond that point.
I cannot see where you get the "plays terrible" part. Thats certainly not what was shown. Game ran smooth and well.
If you dont like this playstyle, well thats your perogative. Play something else then. Thats not an objective flaw though.
As far as graphics go, it will get better as this is "pre-alpha."
Art design is what it is.
If it can get to a Vanguard level of content at launch then it should be fine though it will look like an indy game as there is only so much they can do.
Again, "if" this launches.

That thing has been in "pre-alpha" for how many years now ? That game looks like something made in the 2000s, not 2020.
And yeah, that won't be a problem since it will probably never launch.
@Adamantine I wasn't targeting anyone specific with my previous comment, and yeah, everything I'm writing is my opinion. I won't go on the pantheon specific forum to comment on that game, but since this thread was made in the Pub, you'll have to accept that people like me will also answer to it.

When are these guys planning to redo the graphics? All the fiddly work on developing classes didn't include images and animations? Will the improved graphics and animation work with the engine that is currently in Pre-Alpha testing? Does VR even have enough money to redo the graphics? How long will that take?
I strongly believe that after nearly a decade, this is what will be delivered. I don't expect the visuals to change.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Several things ...
We need to stop thinking of it as "after 7 years/after a decade, 'whatever'" development time. We know that this is not a consistent steady development over that time.
Their team was stopped/restarted several times. Heck, after the failed kickstarter they tried to develop and then halted development for a short time and then they started over with a volunteer team.
Then Brad dies, they decide they have been doing several things very wrong, implement new tools that actually help them rather than hinder and "rip out" many systems to accommodate a new way to develop.
It's a project manager's nightmare. I'm betting a solid 3 years development with (hopefully) use of assets and bits they developed along the way.
It's pre-alpha regardless of how long they've been working on it so "yes" they will introduce different graphical improvements as it gets closer to launch. Graphical changes are made in Alpha as well. It's my understanding that it's in Beta where thins are essentially complete but for improvements to systems, testing, etc.
Having said that we must also realize that when we say "graphical improvements" we are NEVER going to get a game that comes close a a Black Desert or Elder Scrolls Online.
Again "if it launches."

I guess I will be in the minority but I liked what I saw. There is a lot of potential here. I do wish the graphics were better and really I need to see what quests and the like are going to be like. However, even IF this game launches and is good I don't think its going to matter. I don't think there is a big enough audience for a game like this anymore.
I mean how many of you guys would play it IF it came out and reviewed well?
Pantheon is one of the last hopes I have for MMO's. No matter how dramatic I end up getting over the state of development, if it releases I will be there fighting login queues and server crashes from the very first second.

I would play it if it came out and wasn't reviewed well.
I don't have the same list of requirements that some players have for a game.
For one, I don't want or need quests. In Vanguard I mostly explored. As long as I can get to cap with exploring, fighting, etc then that's fine by me.
"If" this launches (and that's a big if) I'll play day one along with Maahes420 above me!

Sorry, I just like saying "crack", meant no harm.
Not offended but you made this "joke" before about Brad. It's not unreasonable to think that you are extending his personal problems to the team. As if they are "hippies" of a sort just hanging and drugging. That's a bit of a stretch but you get the idea.
I think they are well meaning volunteers and hopefully employees who believe in what they are doing and are trying to get the game launched if not for fans but for Brad whose baby this was.

That's great, I hope you get to play it soon!
As far as the "look" I play a lot of old games, Morrowind, I jump into Daggerfall here and there, going to give the original Gothic another shake ... all that is to say that I'm ok with a game not looking cutting edge.
I think for a pre-alpha game it looks fine.
Yes, this has had a development hell but sadly I think it took Brad dying and the studio to move to other hands to put it on track.
I mean, they had to gut systems because the way things were set up were not supporting swift development.
Now, whether this game has the money to really put things on a solid foundation and get some real development going ... well, we'll see.

Honestly when Brad died I thought that was honestly the end of the game. I kind of treated it like it was. However, the progress they have showed in the last year is way more then every year put together at this point. Plus PA testing every month starting in January.
Its sad but Brad dying may have been the push they need to finish the game
This is my type of game. Loved EQ and Vanguard.... and I am looking forward to Pantheon. The graphics are fine, for me it's a whole new world to explore. Even if it looks old school.

That thing has been in "pre-alpha" for how many years now ? That game looks like something made in the 2000s, not 2020.
Except it won't look like something made in "2020's"
Why would it? The group it's being made for are fans of Everquest/Vanguard/early games. And they don't have the money to make a game that looks like, say, "Black Desert."
So why would this ever be a consideration? It wouldn't, it's a moot point.
As far as "pre-alpha ... they've started and restarted several times as well as pivoting on how they develop and changed out loads of stuff. So of course it's been in pre-alpha for years.
That's because "it's could only be in pre-alpha for years." They've never had enough steam to take it to Alpha. This could be because of a volunteer studio, (remember, for part of the development the people were not getting paid) so that must have been great with retention, lack of money, uncertain or changing vision.
and I think part of the issue is having developers, at least for a bit of the development, that didn't have a lot of experience.
I've mentioned that years ago at PAX East, I went to speak with Brad and a few of their developers and one of them made a quick mention about redoing an area that had been redone several times. Brad looked at him and gently, but sternly, said "it's fine, it doesn't need to be redone again."
The entire thing is a project that has been started and stopped and restarted with different goals for years.
Of COURSE it's in pre-alpah. It would have been a miracle if it was anything further along than pre-alpha!
How many different ways can one say this? When you start and stop a project, any project, many times, it doesn't get finished.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Winner winner, here comes the White-Knights out from the woodwork.
So 5 mil and 8 years later and it would be a "MIRACLE" if the game with this cheezy low end graphics could even get out of pre-alpha?
LOL geez that is some seriously low expectations. If its a such a miracle why did they even start this project and take all these peoples money?
So its a miracle after 8years and 5mil if they could make it out of alpha, how much time do you expect then to get out of Alpha? 15-20? Then beta add what another 7 years? So you are going for a 35+ year dev cycle then? Will any backers still be alive?
When I invested in this, I expected to actually play the game, I didnt invest hoping my great grandkids would inherit my pledge.
Well I am sure in January they will announce Alpha will start at the end of next year. This seems to be what they do every year now for the last few years.
IF Pantheon ever gets to Alpha, I will be judging the game mostly on the Gameplay, even as bad as these graphics are, I can still deal with bad graphics in games if the gameplay is good.
Although I am thinking the gameplay will be around the same quality as these graphics which will be VERY LOW. That will be a non-starter for this game. So in the end even if it manages to release this century, Pantheon will probably end up like Embers Adrift, a complete dumpster fire.
