I am not really sure you can dissociate Diablo Immortal from its microtransactions, the biggest disappointment is DI, a cash shop is integral to a MMO. Indeed, these days you might almost call it the soul of a MMO, as it drives gameplay and the game is designed around it. Yes, that's where we are now a genre that has a cash shop for a soul.

Apart from that I will repeat myself from last year when I pointed out that Valheim has not launched and I wondered what it will win in 2023, still having not launched in all likelihood.

Elden, GTA and Runeterra get my award as "the most deserved awards", but that's just me.

Don't know GTA or Runeterra but Elden Ring is amazing.

I only wish I was better with a controller as I'd make better headway with the time I get to play it.

I mean I think the League of Legends MMO is the only choice. Its the only MMO with the real chance of coming out with 100's of million of dollars being poured into.

Not only that but we can look at Riot's previous games and get a good grasp of what the MTX will be like and its mostly cosmetic and the like.

I think you would like the world of Runeterra.  There is such deep lore and the factions are so diverse in art and function.  Its should be a story rich driven game.

I only play the card game and they added some story stuff to them. I like the characters, and I think the different decks are inventive, especially for a rogue lite. They show off a lot of characters and creatures and stuff. Part of me would like to know more about it, but unless they explain it on the cards or during the play sessions I can't be bothered too much.

I hated league of legends. But legends is runeterra might be my favorite mobile game to play right now.

Elden ring definitely won my vote though. I think the story was told poorly. But the gameplay and customization and world were awesome.

Wasn't much in the way of competition.

Only game on the list I agree with... Valheim.

And MMORPG of the year, once again an expansion. Next year make two categories...

And yeah, Lost Ark is probably the ARPG of the year... because there's no serious competition.

I agree with Guild Wars 2 as top MMO. Its been a wild 10 years with the game and even more wild 18 or so years since the launch of Guild Wars 1. The latest expansion has some great events, expands the already massive game, added really awesome quality of life features, optimized the game a bit, and the player base has grown by quite a bit. 2022 was FINALLY the year of Guild Wars. Well deserved. Cant wait to see what's next!
