It's like they rammed that price hike right in there over the last few years. Thank god for Steam sales.

It is inflation. I personally don't disagree with this, we cannot escapee it, it's economics 101, as much as I also dislike the increase :).

What I do dislike is the approach Callisto protocol, took. Not only a high game price for a single player story game, but they also added a season pass (to a single player game!) and the game is reported o be short, so he DLC available is clearing a chop-shop of the game they could have released.

Come on, studios were still blaming lack of development on corvid last year, so inflation is going to have to go down to 0.5% until they stop using "inflation".

PS4 console exclusive? Microsoft or the FTC should sue :)

While the trailer looks good it doesn't really do anything to sell the game. I mean I watched it and I couldn't even tell you what kind of game it is. Could be anything really. It left me with an overall sense of meh. 10/10 for the artists. 0/10 for marketing.

Lol seeing more of these companies trying to adopt the 70 dollar price tag makes me think back to the time when games were 50 and jumped to 60. The real reason I think they do this is to help when these games on sale. When you think about it, these games get discounted super quick now-a-days, especially SE titles. Valkyrie Elysium (mixed reception) already went 50% off about a month post release. When you do the math, these discounts end up evening out to being the same as they always have been and common people tend to float towards big numbers when it comes to discounts. For example, 50% off of 70 sounds better to common people vs 40% off of 60 but they still average to be the same price. People will probably float towards something with the higher discount without doing the math first and realize they're still paying the same price in the long run.

I know. that's why they say "console exclusive" at the end of the trailer instead of just "exclusive."

Anyhow, I was just taking a shot at Sony since they seem to be the primary whiners about the MS proposed acquisition of Activision based on future exclusivity... despite being the leading console with many more exclusives than anyone else by a country mile.

Squeenix making plenty of bad decisions lately including doubling down on NFT's and jumping on the $70 base game price hike. From the sounds of the demo this game is ok, but not really anything to blow you away and the dialogue is reported as annoying at best. This one goes on my "Steam sale someday" list.

As to the price of the game I'd honestly be ok with $70 IF the game is truly excellent. I have no reservation about paying for quality. The problem is, so many of today's titles seem like rushed out the door, half-baked efforts. When I go to steam and watch the gameplay preview this game has a very derivative look to it from a number of games that have come before it. Even the visuals look very same-ol from a number of different games. Specifically Assassin's Creed: Origins and Odyssey immediately come to mind. Throw some Horizon Dawn Zero / Forbidden West in there. So... in order for them to get me to cough up $70, they're going to need to convince me that this game is as good as or better than those titles. They have yet to convince me.

Games have gotten substantially more expensive to make and we were paying the same price we were for many years. I think $70 is reasonable for a triple A game with a big budget. Inflation has gone up almost 50% since 2005 when games were being priced at $60.00, and they cost more to make now on top of that. I understand not liking it, but it’s a neccesssry increase if we want triple A games to be of this quality.

Certainly some games will flop and not be worth it, but that was always the case. Games also get almost all of their sales at msrp so the sales theory is incorrect. Most games get the vast majority of their sales at launch. Some exceptions exist such as Skyrim or Cyberpunk, but generally games sell all of their copies out of the gate.

They tried to bury PC gaming, but I don't excuse MS either, they released a console themselves and in doing so put a question mark over the future of PC gaming.

All that said I am quite happy to have Spiderman etc on my list, give it another ten years and I may be able to forgive them. :)

The odd thing is that I have found that the controller itself is quite kind to my hands so I thank consoles for that. I can actually just relax and sit back and play my turn based games on the controller and not suffer any pain in all joints. So consoles have given me something and JRPGs which I love. I am not the PC is the master race evangelist.
