Assuming you would be in full control of the company, what would you do ?

Expand the game further ? What other features would you add ?

Start a new game ? What projects would you like to see ?

Or what ?

Expanding would be my thoughts. Assuming this thing launches with all the bells and whistles, I would do an NMS and have a big handful of procedurally created galaxies where players could go explore/build whatever but it would be comp[letely out of UEE control.

Simultaneously, I would work on making alien races playable. This would be a huge undertaking but in my opinion, being able to be an alien is a big appeal to gameplay. With this, I would also get cybernetics and stuff in there.

Anyway, those would be my two big pushes.

It would be great if this game is ever realised, huge fan of Elite Dangerous, NMS is kind of fun too, anyone who was around back when Earth and Beyond was a thing, it was a fun game too. Of course there is also Eve Online though sadly WIS never really took off there, something that could have been a huge addition to the game even if they only copied the Earth and Beyond model for 'stations' etc. How many more years i wonder, before SC becomes a thing, the current 'tech demo' provides a lot of hints as to what the game might turn out to be, but how much longer? Eve really did miss the trick with WIS, hopefully SC will expand on that.

Start a new crowd funding campaign, maybe to let players buy their own asteroids, moons or planetoids.

    Or maybe one of these.

Well, if it has different galaxies I would for example hope it would have different size galaxies.

The majority would be small dwarf galaxies with 10^8 stars, then there would be some Milky Way/Andromeda sized average galaxies with 10^11 stars, and finally there would be  a few huge super galaxies with up to 10^14 stars.

NMS unfortunately only has such super galaxies.

Also, I would hope they have black hole travel and you could realistically only travel to other galaxies by using the central black hole of a galaxy. Which would be roughtly larger the larger the galaxy is, and the larger that central black hole is, the further you can travel.

Some galaxies might not have a central black hole, which means you'll have to spent a lot of time to get away from them again.

Some galaxies might not have dark matter and are thus amazingly thin, with vast distances between stars.

Some galaxies might be dead and have only old, red stars.

    Etc.

Also if we get different galaxies I would hope they would create a number of scenarios and depending upon galaxy you would encounter a couple of them (usually just one in a dwarf galaxy, but really in a supergalaxy all of them could easily be present at the same time), ideas like:

    - Two ancient races with vastly superior technology at war, using younger races as their toys (Babylon 5)

    - Killerbots: Advanced Robots bent on wiping out all biological sentient life (Terminator, Stellaris Determined Exterminator)

    - Assimilators: Robotic hybrids consuming and integrating all sentient biological life (Star Trek Borg, Stellaris Driven Assimilator)

    - Bodysnatchers: parasite race takes over sentient life, trying to claim all advanced technology for their own (Goa'uld from Stargate SG-1)

    - Replicators: robot race which spreads everywhere and consumes all resoures (Stargate SG-1, Lexx: The Dark Zone)

    - Space vampires: race that consumes life energy from sentient life (Stargate Atlantis)

    - Uncureable disease: causes random organ failure, so people steal organs from each other (Phage from Star Trek: Voyager)

    - Obnoxious merchants: evil race that tries to make everything into money (Ferengi from Star Trek: The Next Generation)

    Etc

And if sufficient numbers of players combine their efforts, they can (temporarily) neutralize such threads in a galaxy.

Playable alien races, I would a priori say rather start with only like 3 such races and but make them as interesting and deep, and as different to play as possible from each other and from humans.

For example they would have different feeding needs. Like one would only eat plants. Another only meat.

One of them would have natural hibernation and despite traveling space they cannot overcome this requirement and will be unavailable for playing for some time.

Another one could only see in black and white, but can also see ultraviolet and infrared this way.

One might be very short and to be more efficient in general environments, they would actually controll a larger robot body.

    Etc.

Why would they ever actually release it? They rake in cash as it is, what would be the point?

Yes funding and player levels continue to increase, and that is true however, it is not infinitely sustainable. At some point, they will want to release the game so they can get on with other projects. The initial release of SQ 42 is only chapter 1, and I think there are three planned right now. It makes sense that SQ42 would release and be "finished" at some point.

Star Citizen, on the other hand, may end up releasing but I assume it will be in a continuous development cycle. The scope of the game is just too massive and unless CIG wants to wait until 2035 to actually release the game, it would be better to release it now (in the next couple of years) and then continue expanding.

At any rate, it's all guesswork right now. CIG says they want to release and honestly releasing does not mean they cannot continue to develop ships and other digital items to sell which is the biggest contribution to their funding. According to financials.

Personally, I think it will release but we will see a never-ending supply of ship concepts.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

They have the perfect storm....Millions of dollars in revenue and not one iota of accountability.....If they released, then people have expectations.....If it is forever alpha, then there are none and there is no timeline whatsoever....THis is the worst kind of business model really, but their customers keep falling for it over and over again.

The thing that it's even already known, it's that the game will release with just part of the planned solar systems. So the updates after its stable version would be content expansions by releasing new solar systems, and it's a pretty smart approach to keep content going if you ask me.

As this follows the logic of an MMO, they only stop updating once they shutdown, so that's going to be that, I don't see any forced need to realize its entire scope by its stable version as dev would continue so it wouldn't differ much.

They devalued the whole concept of a Death Star in Rise of Skywalker, "Why don't we say that in a few years a weapon that needed to be as big as a moon can just be a big cannon on an Imperial Destroyer." Technobabble has to have consistency, otherwise it ruins 'suspension of disbelief' which is crucial in Science Fiction.

Yeah they lost me with Starkiller base when I watched them sucked a star and all its mass into something the size of a moon and did not immediately create a black hole in the process. Basic physics, people.

Oh, I don't know, Christian churches have been collecting money for thousands of years by selling the promise of Christ's return and heavenly salvation but have failed to deliver anything tangible to date, yet hope lives on and big money keeps rolling in from untold millions of believers.  (Even me)  :)

Star Citizen delivers something far more tangible even if it's final delivery is improbable, if not nearly impossible so they likely can keep raking in the bucks for quite awhile. ;)

What matters Max is will it "release" with the promised number of star systems because right now it appears they are far short of the original goals as far as I recall.

Its sort of like if Camelot Unchained decided to release with two factions instead of three, would be disingenuous for them to do so and say they'll be adding the third later.

Star Citizen needs to be at least the minimally marketable product which is more or less what has long been defined by their many delivery goals.

What "subset" of planned star systems was promised when they revised their original estimate, one, two or was it left totally at their discretion?

It's released when they no longer wipe player's progression, no other criteria really matters.

I think we'll be lucky to see it release if any of us with kids see that happen before the kids go off to college (assuming some of had kids when they were still single digits when this game started development). This year will mark the 12th year in development. Even if you cut them slack by 2-3 years due to covid, its still a long time in development.

It's up to how much is done by the time they consider what's in there stable, so no numbers.

The scope of this all changed, by the time of this pitch the star systems were just the space and its POI's, with on-rails landings on some landing locations in some planets. Since then, now they fully realize every planet and moon and have to create entire cities and populate them with POIs, missions, etc, so it's easy to understand how the jump from planet textures to fully realized things completely jinxed up the time 100 would take to create, at least, without a lot of copy/pasting that is.

And yes what we end up talking about is when the state of the game could be called a stable release, no wipes, gg, is most unlikely to me it will get to the point they say "hey game released all done", more like stable releases and dev continues.

After it "releases", I expect Chris to send out cryptic Emails with 3D Golden Tickets.  An Email/Social Media campaign with begin with many teases.

Then he will make the announcement via an amazing video:

    They said it was DEAD
It's been 30 years since Star Citizen shattered expectation with it's announcement of development
But we are doing it AGAIN!

With YOUR help we can prove that the Ultimate Space Sim is not a product, but a state of mind!

So I am happy to announce:

Star Citizen 2 -  Bigger, better, smarter... and coming to your PC
(Snap to Photo realistic scene of Tom Cruise in a flight suit in a room with Robert Downey Jr in a military uniform sitting behind a Desk)

RD: I have enough right here (pointing to something on his desk) to ground you for life.  But Damnit, I have to do something I simply cannot believe.

    TC: Sir?

RD:  I have to give you your own Carrier group.

    (Cut to later scene)

RD: You know that the people will eventually let you down...

TC:  Maybe so Sir, but not today.  (As he walks out of the office)

Flash to Chris Roberts streaming from his Lamborghini-  Thats right folks.  others have called you soft.  They say your pockets have run dry.  But not me.  I have faith in the dream we share.  I know that you will do all you can to make this reality.

Flash to high tech office space where chris stands in an actual flight suit holding his helmet.  Sitting in front of an amazing gaming chair.

CR:  That's right folks.  Star Citizen 2 will be a fully immersive experience.  Our ImperialCloudsChair and Integrated FlightSuit will turn your gaming experience into the most realistic Sim in the history of mankind. (Chris sits in his seat and puts on the helmet and the camera flashes to 1st person as a visor opens and you can see yourself sitting in the Captains Chair of an immense bridge.  The graphics are photo realistic, and a John William's score starts playing.  The camera, mirroring your viewpoint, slowly pans and you see various crewmembers going about their assignments.  All in military uniforms.  You see Chris Pratt tinkering with some repair tool (Chris Pratt as Chief Engineer Brody), then Will Smith staring intently into a small device (Will Smith as Security Chief Kumbatcha).  camera pans to the backside of a beautiful woman who turns to face you (Scarlett Johansen as Angel, Communications Chief). Doors swing open and in walks a man in Blue Talking about Chaos theory (Jeff Goldblum as Commander Adams)...

Chris Roberts voice comes back in as the camera zooms to focus on the bridge viewscreen where amazing scenes of galaxy exploration are shown.

Thats right folks.  SC2 will be the FIRST fully immersive Space Sim.  It will feature haptic feedback combined with a fully integrated flight suit to provide visual, thermal, olfactory and touch based simulation.  This is CR as it was meant to be.  You will literally breathe the air of Star Citizen.  You will feel every burn. Smell every scent.

It will have fully integrated voice recognition and you will walk and interact with a REAL world filled with some of the most amazing characters ever experienced in a sim.

Suddenly an alert siren starts to ring out, and the bridge gets a reddish glow... 3 sinister ships seems to appear out of nowhere and launch a barrage at your ship.

Chris shouts out:   GET US THE FUCK OUT OF HERE

(Unmistakable voice of Morgan Freeman responds in a calm tone)
Already underway Captain, and please refrain from such colorful language

The screen shows going into "hyperdrive" and goes black. After a second we get the Chris Roberts Lambocam back, but this time he's in a different color one.

CR: SC2 is not just a dream.  It's already begun.   Years ago, I turned over some development of SC1 to my brother so I could focus on the real future.  Star Citizen 2.  (the amazing background music nears its crescendo).  In 1 week I will open up a limited number of CitizenSlots.  This elite group will be limited to the first million responders.   Reserving your seat, literally your seat, will just cost $1,000 and will represent the first payment on your journey.  Lets face it.  This world sucks.  None of us can put a number on the value of having a whole NEW world.  A whole new UNIVERSE to explore, discover and colonize!

Credits start to roll and include a list of celebrities ranging from William Shatner to Madonna to Ben Affleck and JLo...AAron Judge, Michael Jordan, Mindy Kaling, if you can think of the name.. it scrolls by.

They had no idea how they were going to do things.  They just kept throwing stuff against the wall to encourage more 'donations'.  Roberts and scope dithering.  Yep.  Agree that persistence, no wipes, is when the thing gets real.  At whatever diminuitive state it's in then.  How many years that will take is anyone's guess.
