Black Desert is a grindy game. A great grinding game, but a huge grinding one at that. Lowry is here with some tips on how to grind, but in a way that feels chill instead of...you know...like a grind.

When you walk into one of the more contested grinding areas, you can choose to go to Marni's realm for 1 hour per day where no other players are, essentially your own grinding instance.

I actually was looking for a grinding game myself, I'm not really sure why I didn't even consider Black Desert.

I work in project management at the moment, so turning off my brain after work and just killing stuff feels up my alley.

This the kind of game I can jump in and just start killing things without paying much attention while watching a movie or something?

I think they are much better than traditional "quest mmorpg's"

At least you are doing something. If you are in a group it can be more fun.

Traditional quest based games have you reading some text (which may or may not be good) running to an area to kill/collect just a few things, then running back.

That's if people read the text.

It's like the worse relay race ever.

    Yes, pretty much.

Not only is Black Desert a great grinding game, it's cathartic in the way your characters can mow down so many monsters in such a short time.

As a 60-year-old gamer, I find the Shai perfect for me because combat is mainly LMB, RMB, and space bar once in a while. Her self-healing is great as well.

So I bought it on Steam. My thoughts after struggling for 1 hour with it.

The UI is garbage. The worst I've seen in a while. It forced Xbox controls until you get past the tutorial which is an immediate quit-point but, I pushed through it.

Before that though, before I even got to the tutorial, the character creation bugged out on me several times. If I quit out to go back to the main menu after starting to create a character, it completely makes it so you can't interact with the game, forcing you to alt+f4. This is a reproducible bug.

Pop-in with graphics was AWFUL. Like some of the worst pop-ins I've ever seen. Rocks would just pop into existence as I was walking.

After all that, within 1 hour, I decided to jump ship. I have no idea how one could support this.

I did have that thought cross my mind, so I reinstalled it to be sure but all the same issues. Don't have any issues with any other games.

And I don't have a controller even plugged into my PC, soo.. Yup.

If the XP rate wasn't so high, I would probably play this game. I think last time I tried, I reached level 20 in less than an hour. Felt like playing some high XP rate private server. People say that the last 1-2 levels take forever, but I don't understand why the developers decided to make the XP rate so high, it seems like it destroys any immersion the game may have had.

Sadly, for this reason I can't play the game.

It's true, the way graphics work in the game is really bad. Pop-ins are really, really bad.

What if you can run Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring and Death Stranding maxed out, but shoddy games like BDO cause you issues? Is that still your PC's problem or the game in qustion?

BDO really has some ugly graphics and I don't mean polygon count or texture resolution. I mean stuff like shadows, light/dark balance, distant impostors quality, etc.

Honestly, Asian MMOs from like 2005-2009 somehow looked better and graphics were more consistent and masterful. It's like after 2010 there was a massive MMORPG decline in both Western and Asian MMORPGs and they are only able to produce crap and the only good MMORPGs are from the post 2010 era.

The reason for it is simple. There is a massive roster of classes. If you were to painstakingly level up slowly every time you wanted to try something new... You would be way less inclined to do so.

Once you get to level 57 it begins slowing down. Are 60 a lot more. 61 and 62 way more. 63... Waaaay more. Above 66? Forget about it.
There's also power leveling, xp buffs (1100%+), etc.

It's a solid game and PA continuously improve it with quality of life changes. I'd recommend giving it another try.
