WHY!? .. Haven't we as a community demonstrated time and again that we want nothing to do with block-chain anything?

The stupid-in-charge keep hoping somehow this crypto/NFT gaming crap will stick one day.

Unfortunately, they are probably not wrong.

Guys, the history of gaming shows there is no such thing as stooping too low when it comes to making money from players. All that the cryptocurrency crash bought us was some time before the gateway NFT's and the CC games are among us and eventually become the norm.

No idea for making money in gaming is going to get permanently shelved, postponement is the best we can hope for as the player base eventually accepts anything no matter how dubious.

    True.

I think the biggest disconnect is that gamers think about this OR that monetization.  While companies think this AND that.

But I'm stubborn and will fight to the bitter end.  Just like Kahn.

As far as I can tell, this is less of an attempt to connect virtual worlds to players and more of an attempt to connect virtual worlds to the players' wallets.

Well those investors that invested into this company are just idiots sorry to say. NFT's are already out of the picture for gamers and they still try to push that stuff. If they like to burn money well at least invest in a charity or organizations that help other people in need.

It's just ludicrous to think that players will trust this type of implementation as not entwined in scams. It's literally all over the internet how badly people have been affected by all this crypto shit. From how badly the NFTs were leveraged to insane levels only to become worthless.

I cannot see any worth in blockchain. There is nothing I want to be encrypted that badly and pay stupid gas fees and other idiotic fees to actually play a game. I don't want to employ some poor Pilipino to farm for me and sell me that shit so he can feed his family. Just so sick of everything crypto including blockchain.

Keep that shit away from my games.

CCP had a great idea once and made an MMO that has endured for ages. Everything else they've touched has been a disaster.

I wonder how this will turn out,

In this case if you wait until things happen, chances are the horses will have bolted so long ago all you will be left with is the smell of manure.

You want to change someone's plans, it's usually a good idea not to wait until they are no longer plans. The 4-stage strategy really is not your friend here...

I think that there is a totally legitimate market for good games that incidentally have NFTs, but that people who aren't interested in the NFTs can play just fine while ignoring them.  There aren't any such games on the market yet, however.

It's much faster and easier to hack together some awful game than to make a genuinely good game.  NFTs don't change that at all.  Thus, the early games to launch with NFTs have generally been terrible.  But that doesn't mean that there won't be any good games that come later.

For blockchain use, I would agree but for NFTs that brings up the whole issue of RMT immediately, and if the NFTs are more than just cosmetics, P2Win as well.

It depends.  I think the issue I have is that if you have an NFT and that is tied to a digital currency then the government is going to say that it has value and it will want to tax it.  And I really, really do not want that in my games.   I just want to play a game.  Im not saying there can't be a great game underneath it all, but the fear that my game will become viewed as some sort of income is what influences my view the most.

It all depends on how the game is structured.  Suppose that a game has both an NFT server and a no-NFTs server, and that the latter requires a subscription or some such in place of NFTs.  Would the existence of the NFT server mean that you refuse to play on a subscription server?

Suppose that a game made it so that the only way that NFTs got created is that if you had two of the same item, you could pay $10 to make the two items into a single NFT that was tradeable--effectively destroying one of the items in the process.  Would that really ruin the game for you?
