Almost $190 million went into industry startups this week, a significantly greater amount than the previous seven day period, which saw only $37 million injected into the ecosystem.
Of all the funding raises, Web3 gaming developer CCP Games, a Reykjavík-based startup, managed to secure the largest amount of cash over the same span.
It closed a $40 million seed round led by prominent venture capitalist firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Participating investors included Makers Fund, BITKRAFT, Kingsway Capital, HASHED and Nexon, among others.
“With advancements made within blockchain, we can forge a new universe deeply imbued with our expertise in player agency and autonomy, empowering players to engage in new ways,” Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP games said in a statement.
This round of financing will be used to accelerate the studio’s development of gaming in the virtual world.

Very few gaming studios these days are reliant on Blockchain to fund a cryptocurrency specific project.
As much as people want to tie the two together, Blockchain and cryptocurrency are not the same thing
One thing that stinks to me about the whole web3 gaming is the decentralization factor. How the hell is that going to work with an intellectual property such as an MMORPG? It sounds like it would be a logistical, legal and financial nightmare.
If Bcbull's numbers are representative, that would mean single week's gaming revenue would be about equal to whole years blockchain gaming investments.

Let's hope the new generations are not drawn into this. This is what we need to protect. Other wise this will slowly slip to bee the norm and online gaming will no longer be a place to play but a place to earn companies even more money.
In order to earn the trust of the gaming community back, they're going to have to accept a certain concept. Pay your community to play and profit from your game as you the company do the same. No one will accept wasting time only to be scammed once again.
The old adage says, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Bottom line: Bring back old school MMO and pay people to profit from your games to make amends to your investors.

Crypto was supposed to be a gaming concept. It wasn't supposed to be about Ev cars, Ev Batteries, and the Petro Dollar. It was exploited as such. Crypto was going to help people survive covid19 and evolve a boring grind in gaming. The rich and powerful destroyed this great idea. Don't buy their cars.
