Stormhaven Studios, the plucky indie studio behind Embers Adrift, has just released a brand new trailer for the next update headed to the game, The Threat of Grimstone.

It's only missing my desire for some real world interaction like meaningful PvP or social things like housing. Otherwise, it gives me all I ever want in an MMO: 1. Explore - not many directional indicators, including your loc on the map, or quest markers. But plenty to guide you like an arrow pointing towards nearby group mates on their respective vitals.
2. Kill - with risk, in this case, only the time to regroup and get back but still a challenge.
3. Gather.
4. And craft.
Secondly, the optimization is bad but they badly want to hire a graphics developer to fix things up. Plays fine on low with a 3050.
I'm a slower player, and a bit of a minimalist so all the modern flashy aspects of MMOs annoy me. There have to be others who enjoy doing only those activities with no distractions. Very surprised after recently getting into Project1999, to come back to EA and see a lot of similarities! Albeit without the faction filled giant world that classic EQ is. And not without their own Embers Adrift spin on everything.
They're also moving at a fast rate for a small team, ready to hire for their specific weaknesses, and seem fully down to revamp every system if needed when they have the resources as well as constantly add new ones to deepen the experience and most importantly, tell a lore rich story. I'm more intrigued about this game's story than any MMO I've played in years. There's actual mystery and no wiki with guides that spoil things.
And their community manager says good morning every day on Discord!
Damn, didn't mean to go so long.
It's got it's problems, it's classic MMO gameplay as hell though, and is ready to improve and add content, seemingly at a good pace. Shouldn't we pay monthly for a game that plans to add content for its entire lifespan? I hear it's not finished but people have reached max level. And the story is actually interesting. It's not a game about the endgame and there seems to be a lot of story, unlike some people seem to say. So as long as you can grind to max in combat levels and crafting/gathering, I'd call this type of game ready for release.
Googled unimpressed, found this kid, sums up this trailer.
Good luck to them.

This entire dev team admitted they have no experience in MMO's at all. I seen videos from way back that the lead dev said something along the lines of "wouldnt it be great if someone made a game like D&D tabletop where you could just run around with others" Hello welcome to the world of MMO's Dev team. Maybe they should have played a few MMO's first before making one.
The only people with MMO experience was the CEO and is bro and they got forced out, and their streamer. I am not saying the lead dev doesnt have some programming skills, because I think he does, but has ZERO concept of what an MMO is when they made this.
When you consider the lack of experience that went into making this, its actually not bad from that point of view. But in a world where all you have to do is play a few MMO's to see what the competition is doing, there is really no excuse for not researching a little bit before taking on this large of a project.
Make it B2P. Make the price $20-25, put it on Steam and the game will get players and get better. Then start selling pets and skins, add a housing system with all kinds of furniture and crap and all the blind professional consumerists will come and make you rich.
You know its a bad game when that is true lmao
