One more playtest for Diablo IV is coming in May. Server Slam will stress test the servers, include previously-announced changes, and even offer up a new Ashava reward.

Gharbad will live forever....
same bough new PC and missed the last beta
... I don't need to pre-purchase or anything to try it out?
Im just not sure they can get away with the D3 mentality that they are the only AAA APRG out there. Sure theyll sell a TON of copies out the gate but I just dont see the game having the longevity of even D3.
There are so many competitive ARPGs out there that are innovating and do more than having snappy combat and nice artwork. Diablo doesnt carry the weight it did back when D3 was new, and almost all of that was because of D2.
Also, I suspect there will be major issues/disappointment with endgame, which is ????...getting close to launch with almost no media on what endgame will look like, and TONS of media on cutscenes, lore, ect. This tells me where they spend most their design time. Not a great sign.
I don't think it's an either/or equation.
Diablo has it's own setting and is it's own thing. I also don't think that players who play ARPG'S are only playing one game. They like ARPG's and they will be trying to play as many as they can.
At the very least, there are players who aren't ARPG fans per se but who just love Diablo.

I agree. I feel the same. Sure for a linear RPG story driven game, you don't want to spoil too much during a beta and put some limits in place.
But Diablo is meant to be a game you keep endlesly replaying with each new season. So it's actually beneficial to open up the entire game during an Open Beta event and see how quickly and how far people get in a short amount of time and if leveling pace and classes behave as expected.
You also catch potential exploits more easily, you might have missed.
Especially with a shared Open World in D4, the last thing we need is yet another New World fiasco with exploits running rampant all over the place.
No, I have a feeling the game will be very rough/unfinished beyond Act.1 with barebones Endgame they probably end up panic patching/fixing post-launch.
If I remember correctly the second test was open to anyone, so the third test will probably be the same. You'll probably be able to confirm that before downloading on their site when it's getting to be time.
I hope other people enjoy more than I did.
mmorpg junkie since 1999
like , guild halls, and raids or group dungeons or any sort of multiplayer events or features , as far as i know the world boss even if you're grouped will auto sort you into parties with randoms instead

End game is just affixes on dungeons you already beat, at least so far as we saw in Closed. They have said you can reset dungeons to focus farm gear. I like that at least.
I actually preferred the graphics in D3 in terms of size and angle. I don't mind the dark and gloomy, before playing D4 i was one of the people that said I hope they went back to the D2 look. I think I do like the bright colors of D3 more when putting in a lot of time.
I pre-ordered, I'll push to end game in the first two weeks as I will be on vacation, but not sure how much staying power it will have. I hate re-leveling, so seasons is m'eh to me.
Seasons have zero draw for me, so if that's really going to be the development focus post-release, I'd rather get this on sale.
Yeah, im hoping for more than just modified rifts, or likely what it is sounding like, a watered down Path of Exile system.
Rifts was fantastic back in the day, but then, the only competition was a still in development (and basic iteration) of POE maps. Now that game has multiple content mechanisms, many that are solid additions like Delve ect.
....and D4 is going to come on scene with dungeons with map modifiers? There has to be more, at least I hope.....oh who am i kidding, endgame will be sold in 2years as a $70 expansion....until then it looks like watered down maps/rift hybrid. I just dont see how ill get longevity out of this.
Thanks for the info. The enchantment mechanic sounds interesting. I'm excited to see how D4 plays. It's been too long coming.
I happily paid for it and will likely buy the DLCs if I'm still enjoying the game by the time they come out.
The previous Diablo games native to PC have all provided me with many hours of entertainment such that they were well worth the price. Play to date has shown me this one will be as well.
