Yay! Finally all the folks that wanted an MMO with Hardcore mode can have it. I'm interested to see if anyone actually survives a raid at end game. Heck, I'm interested to see if they can get enough people brave enough to sign up for a raid to start it. Also, something tells me PvP is going to be pretty quiet. Glass cannons are going to need to rethink their build. I'm betting Warlocks, Hunters, and hybrid tank+healer builds will fare well. Fire mage, not so much.
OOH! I hope they do a server wide announcement when people die so everyone can cumulatively cringe when some high level player bites the dust.
The current HC has a guild that downed the final boss in AQ40. Lots of people are surviving the raids and doing really well. I will be more interested in trying this when an official server launches. For me it is more about chasing that nostalgia and dopamine hit and achieving the goal of doing Deadmines on my rogue. Anything after that will just be icing on the cake.
I enjoy the HC idea, and I am looking forward to it. I also have been only playing HC on D2:R lately for a bit more of a challenge and fun.

this is something like a player run server would do, not a AAA 15 a month massive company like blizzard. like wat.. this should have been already a thing a long time ago
I read somewhere, in a few different places, that under 5% of players access the classic raids like in WoW. So what would be the % of players that will be happy to see this? I used to be into raiding in that type of organized setting but find myself enjoying more open systems like Public Events, the kind we will see in Ashes, that became really popular in Warhammer and later Rift.

Running a vanilla server is also something a private server would do. It's where Blizzard got the idea! They just copy but sadly somehow always do it worse.

with exrtemely well known meta and tactics vanilla is simple enough to do on hardcore. molten core has always been easy, bwl always causes a death but thats it. aq40 is about avoiding initial death

Now, if it were something like Survivor in Guild Wars, that would be sorta ok.
This is gonna be interesting.
