    This seems to be in the same vein as VR, it is going to "revolutionize" immersive gameplay.

    But, my dissatisfaction with gaming has little to do with NPCs not being immersive enough and more to do with AAA devs making the same game for 15 years.

    Today I am announcing: "Scot's Social Media In A Bottle (SMIAB)"

    The AI will act as a social media platform filling in the roles of everyone in your bubble and people in the public eye who Tweet. So you can follow your bestie celebs even when they block you, still have an online relationship with your girlfriend when she dumped you two years ago and so on.

    You can retreat into a online reality that is a distorted image of the real world and it's pertinence to you and your real life will be just as relevant as Twitter, that is not very relevant at all. You can delude yourself that your opinions matter and you are partaking in a community that is changing the world for the good. Just like Twitter, but in a Bottle!

    Well, this sounds very similar my idea for using chatbots to improve NPCs from years ago. So, I guess I'll have to say this is a good thing, but as with everything in games, it'll come down to implementation.


    I don't really care how well the NPCs speak. Certainly translating on-the-fly means nothing to me.


    What I do care about is how well these NPCs will be able to remember what is going on in the game world and how they will react to it. I didn't read anything here that makes me think they'll do that.

    Yes, but now that will be preceded by a custom wall of text that will sometimes include statements that are nonsensical or untrue.  And better yet, it will be fully voiced so that the NPC will read the wall of text to you, very slowly, with a cadence that makes you think that it isn't fluent in your language.

    I am so excited for AI engineered PvP. The next DAOC created by AI will be so much fun I can't even stand it. Just think how much fun it will be to live through all the things that will go wrong with AI PvP. You thought sexting dark elves in WoW catacombs was funny, oh just wait until some innocent newb has a conversation with an AI NPC and the AI bot uploads it to the internet. Good times lie ahead boys. /cheers! May we relish the Chaos forever.

    Quizzical didn't even mention the AI wolf dialogue, those barks and howls will have a whole new level of meaningfulness. :)

    .....AAA devs (and others) working on perpetual motion Alpha game(s) for 15 years.

    VR was so iMmErsIVe people ran into their TV's and broke shit, and it's hospitalized people on occasion.
