We're not even close to alpha 2 yet I don't think

But I gotta give them credit, it's looking way better than most of the other games that have released recently.

How would you all react if all this work was just to release into early access in the next 5 years?

Someone remind me, how many games you know that has been in development ( for many years ) 5-6 years by indie companies and they are at least 3 years away from release and which turned out to be good games..?

I remember one game. Hm .. can't remember the name tho'. It has been ..eventually release after many years. It has made by a Greek company. And yes, it was shit.

Can someone explain what is unique about this?

I think maybe it's unique for MMOs since most don't bother with that and instead just force you to buy bag space.

Which is what their main inventory is like so why they choose a different type of inventory for housing is weird.

I’m guessing release will be late 2026.

I would be interested to play Ashes of Creation and Pantheon if they weren't subscription-based games on top of the B2P. I felt more comfortable buying content in ESO and LOTRO knowing I don't have to maintain a subscription each month just to be able to access the game.

Recently I have been trying out Embers Adrift since it doesn't require a subscription anymore. Interestingly enough, I don't understand how (maybe I haven't read the newsletter in detail), but I can play the game without ever buying it. To my understanding, they removed the subscription requirement, but still require you to buy the game, I have made an account for the game before it even launched, but never bought the game, yet I can play it now for some reason. I'm going to give it a shot for 1-2 days, but seeing how slow everything is, I don't know how long will I last.

Subscriptions were never something I was fine with so if Pantheon and AoC don't offer some kind of permanent free trial like Retail WoW or FF14, I guess I will never play them. But then again, both games seem to be years away. I don't expect either game to be in a state of OBT in 5 years from now. Maybe 2029 for OBT on AOC, Pantheon seems like a fantasy EverQuest version of Star Citizen.

Ashes is not buy to play on top of subscription. There is no box price. You only pay the subscription.

Not sure why everyone is so upset that Ashes has been in development for 6 years when that is actually average for MMOs and this is a brand new company that had to deal with covid and literally had to build their whole team. Though they have made mistakes as well but they seem to be in a good place now. They did have a bogus release date at the start that I knew would never happen. Steven had to learn the hard way how long these games take.

1] Thank you for correcting that person who said Ashes was B2P, that wasn't a typo, it shows me the person knows nothing about the game and as usual on the internet talking out of their behind.

2] You write "Not sure why everyone is so upset that Ashes has been in development for 6 years"....who everyone? The majority are happy and waiting, this only appears that way because the clueless haters are the vocal ones, just look at slapshot.

It's funny how people are patient with games they are really looking forward to but every other game not released in two years is "vaporware" or a scam.

Anyway, great looking game, very much looking forward to playing it.

That was Darkfall made by adventurine if I remember right. And it actually wasn't bad, it was goof, but it was made for the hardcore PVP audience full loot etc. For the crowd it was made for it was actually good, just looked incredibly outdated graphically when it released. They were also FAR less communicative and open during their development. AOC at least is constantly showing progress unlike Camelot Unchained. Constant videos that show massive progress now compared to a year ago r a couple years ago. CU is still giving up concept art 10 years later. I have 100% more faith in AOC releasing and beinbg decent at least, compared to many other projects in development hell thats for sure.

I paid them $135 for Alpha 2 access they estimated would be released 2018. I'm very understanding of delays, but here we are 5 years late on that estimated deadline. Am I upset? Yes, because they have continued to sell new users access for exorbitant package prices while putting those off who originally made their success possible. I'm a bit offended by that.

Since the game hasn't been released, no one can make claims about their revenue model, other than what they intend at this point. It may or may not be b2p and the subscription details I am sure are subject to change as we approach that point. If anything the people buying packages and who helped kickstart the game with early access packages could possibly considered b2p users, or at least a lot closer to it than a sub.

I'm patient with games I haven't given money to. Why should I give a damn if the next Elder Scrolls is 10 years out. I haven't given them money for it. I can't even believe that would need to be pointed out.

Yeah you are right but Kickstarter is not the same as buying a product. I paid for a board game 5 years ago that still hasn't shipped. I consider everything I pay for on there to a donation which you may or may not get anything from. That is the nature of the website. If you will miss that money at all then you shouldn't back projects on kickstarter.

For most it comes down to the dishonest nature of the communication. It's not about the money per se, but the lying.

Who even cares anymore. This game is so far away from being finished that it probably won't matter by the time it comes out, especially if they're beat to market, god forbid they're releasing around the time of Riot's MMO (if it ever even releases as well).

The subscription model is the best and most fair model for MMORPGs. Period. It's the best for everyone involved, except the CEO who is going to earn less. But for the players it's the best as there is no pay to win bullshit. For the employers it's the best as it streamlines a continuous development cycle while also incentivises them to always develop the best possible game. Not locking QoL features behind a god damn paywall or creating fomo and other junk to make people pay.

Free to play games are generally WAY more expensive if you want a full and enjoyable experience.

I've seen the latest videos I gotta say, the game had a lot of promising features, but lately, the game looks and feels underwhelming. Despite using Unreal Engine 5, the updates somehow give off an outdated vibe, like they're from a decade ago.

And I understand game development can be tricky, and delays (or change in direction) happen. But it would be great to see a rough launch date. Will people be hyped until 2028?

I'm not gonna lie, I had high hopes for this game, but now I'm feeling kinda skeptical. We gotta see if they can actually deliver on all those promises they made.

    Thank you.

I'd like to add to your list:

    1. Free accounts are an open invitation for scammers and gold-sellers.
    2. Free accounts are an open invitation to griefers and cheaters.

Disposable accounts means there is little or no cost if you break the rules.

Why anyone would want customers who are unwilling to invest in the game world is beyond my understanding. Even at $20 per month at a modest 10hrs. per week the entertainment is costing less than 50 cents per hour.
