Diablo IV: What to do ahead of Season 1 that carries over

IselinIselin Member LegendaryPosts: 18,719
Season 1 is coming on July 20th but the patch will happen on July 18th and there are a couple of things you need to do after July 18th for some of your Eternal Realm accomplishments to carry over and be credited to your seasonal character in Season 1.

You'll need to log in with your Eternal realm characters in both regular and HC, if you also play HC, and some of your achievements will then be applied to all your other characters, seasonal or not (some of this but not all has already been applied to any non-seasonal alts you already have.) These are:

1. Altars of Lillith - both their buffs as well as the renown experience earned - full or partial credit applied.
2. Areas Discovered - both the fog of war removal as well as the renown experience gained - full or partial credit applied.
3. Campaign completion credit - This one is all or nothing: if you completed the campaign you will be able to skip the campaign and go directly to the seasonal gameplay with the new gems, etc. If not, you'll have to complete the campaign in the season before you can start the seasonal track. Note: I believe "campaign completion credit" means also completing the epilogue after the last fight in Hell but not 100% sure.
4. The ability to ride horses. Also all or nothing.

1 and 2 above work separately for regular and HC - you need to do those unlocks separately for each game mode. 3 and 4 apply to both regular and HC regardless of which game mode you completed the task on.

If you have done all of 1 and 2 the renown points earned from that will give you credit for achievements 1 and 2 right from the start - that's 5 skill points and 9 potion limit - and you'll be about halfway to completing the third part and the extra skill point per zone from that.

Unlocking these things also gives your character XP normally but it's not known if that XP gain will also be applied to the seasonal characters. If it does then you'll likely be starting somewhere between level 5 or 6 instead of level 1.

If any of these are completed on a normal character after 7/18, but before you create a seasonal character, will it still sync? Or does all this have to be done before the season even starts?

I'm playing the newest class and season in WH40K Inquisitor which I'm enjoying a lot. Not sure how I'm going to fit all this in at the same time.

It can be done at any time after the 18th.

You can start the season in August if you want and logging into your Eternal Realm character, completing the campaign there, acquiring all the areas, etc. will still carry over to a seasonal character you start after that - it may even apply to a seasonal character you have already created but not 100% sure about that.

Not a fan either of this kind of activity, but it has always worked like this in previous games?

It worked like this in Diablo 3 after the Reaper of Souls expansion that came there 2 years after release.

The appeal is that seasons typically have some additional power and/or activity and/or reward that doesn't exist in the non-seasonal game and it's always something different each season.

It worked well enough in Diablo 3 to the point that very few players played anything other than seasonal play there for the past 10 years.

I may be wrong but I think D3 was either the first game to do this or one of the first. They certainly popularized it and some variation of it was copied by many other games.

They also did it without "season passes." Others added that wrinkle for monetization purposes but now D4 also has a season pass... although there's a free track included for all and the paid option is just for cosmetics.

Yeah it is what it is.  We knew there would be seasons so its not a surprise.  Just that now that it is near, I personally lost motivation to grind out any more on my current characters.  I'll rest up and hit the ground running when season 1 launches in a week and a half.  Still torn on character.  Leaning to Barb but still considering Druid and Necro.

Yeah, same. My main is 87 and staying put. I did all the altars and got 100% of the map weeks ago.

I'll keep an eye on the 1.1 patch notes before I decide what to play. There will be buffs and nerfs on that patch. Might do Druid but If they buff the Sorc enough I might just do that again.

One thing I didn't mention, they said in a Forbes interview that there is no expectation of grinding anywhere near 100 for season completion so any class should be just fine.

The campaign is almost done. I'm at that dual quest point where you're hunting emo boy with Donan and the other crew.

In WH40K, I've almost completed the T1 tasks. The Sororitas is awesome. "Burn the heretics!"

I wish I could get into WH40K because by all accounts it's a solid ARPG but I have never been a fan of the futuristic branch of the WH universe.

I like their fantasy branch quite well and enjoyed that MMO but the tech side of their universe just turns me off - not sure why but it always has.

Well, it is a nihilistic, hyper masculine, borderline ridiculous scifi setting. So much that it is pretty much a parody really. Inquisitor: Martyr absolutely nails that and then some but it can get very tiresome very quickly if you are not ‘into’ it. A shame really since the ARPG is an absolutely fantastic game and easily in the top 3 of my favorite games in the genre. And I have really played them all.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I loved Inquisitor martyr too. I guess I enjoy the setting since I played Dawn of War. The way they employ their indoctrinated practices and religion is a nice twisted touch. Like building the chapel and such. You offer prayers that act like buffs. All very deliciously corrupt considering the slaughter after. I enjoy the setting like I do steampunk too. It's quite a breath of fresh air from pure high fantasy.

+1 for Inquisitor Martyr. I have hundreds of hours in that game and will likely invest more. However I'm a 40k fan.

I just bought the Inquisitor: Martyr Prophecy expansion (on sale) and the summoner class is pretty well done.  I'm going to see how far I last in endgame for the first time rather than buy D4.  It's definitely an underappreciated ARPG.
