i mean they literally say they're going to be adding new content to the game like any other live service game does, and these types of games are really popular right now and actually growing in popularity at the moment so i think so long as they have a reasonable content cadence, and the gameplay is fun it will probably last a long time, i don't see a reason why it would close in 6 months lol...

I think what they meant to write was: "If I cannot rent a hooker, pay her, and then run her over with my hotrod and steal my money back, then the game doesn't appeal to me." (1)
The dev team supports and uses pronouns, even in their videos/streams, which consequently has attracted the related people. For those needing further information of what the game might push (further proven by the complete lack of light and fair skin tone options, as they go from tanned/medium to very dark brown), or what kind of non-welcoming community one might find in it.
Also, the servers/instances can apparently only hold a max of 25 players at the same time. It's marketed as an MMO, by the way.

Two of the member of my household love this sort of game, and will be giving Palia a look. With decent support, it should go quite awhile for them.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
I do love these types of games. I played the hell out of all the Rune Factory series. I am now hitting almost 600 hours in Undecember so will be looking for a new place to call home once I have achieved most of my goals. Surprisingly the game can be played with very little investment in real cash, got the loot pet(monthly) and some tabs.
I enjoy farming and crafting so Palia is right up my alley. I am a huge fan of fishing. Looking forward to this.
Wow....you can min/max farming. I'm guessing 6 months release to close.
There is a market for this type of MMO even if you aren't interested, if you are looking for a WoW clone move along. My wife is super excited about this one and has been in testing, but she wouldn't touch any MMO I play.

The servers don't hold a max of 25 players, the zones do for immersion purposes and so that people aren't having to compete too much for resources. Fallout 76 caps players at 25 per server though, and that was always something I actually liked. As for the character creation and skin tone options I do agree that they need one or two fairer skin tones and maybe some freckles, but they said they aren't finished with all the options in the character creator yet, so that may be something they're already doing.

If those 'related people' are offensive to you then rejoice, they'll be playing Palia and won't be striking poses in your favorite title.
I feel that way about griefer games (Mortal Online, Star Citizen) - if hyper-aggressive arseholes can go play that then I can enjoy my title in peace.
The more options the merrier, I say. I'll probably give Palia a try.

You're so short sighted that you think this is a non-welcoming community? Would you prefer Rust or even Mortal Online 2 where the community is so toxic and racist that other players hunt down darker skin toned players just for fun? B*tch please.
Palia looks like a very welcoming game to all players. I'm sorry if you think they don't cater to fair-skin players and I'm sure they'll accommodate sometime in the future if there's high demand. But maybe you don't like the fact that the shoe has dropped on the other foot where minority and LGBTQ players have been routinely ignored historically by the game dev community.

I don't think it is the inclusion of minorities that is offensive. I think when it comes across as pandering it earns an epic eye-roll. (1)
I'm not claiming that Palia is doing that.
As an outsider to this issue, it seems odd to me that anyone would go to a video game for validation of gender/orientation/etc. Perhaps I'm clueless on this issue because I go to video game to be something else entirely - like a warg in LOTRO.
The sexual orientation thing completely floors me because I don't go to video games for sex.
What I like to do is escape politics and modern issues altogether. If the game wants to make a big deal of those things I probably won't be interested.
NOTES ------------------------------------------------------ 1: Some of the biggest eye-rolls come from the minority community who get tired of being played.

No one does. Well, maybe some pervs...
What everyone seems to forget is that being casual about gender, sexual preference, skin color, and playing pronoun scrabble is as normal for the 25 and under crowd as double lattes.
They don't waste any time fretting about it or politicizing it like boomers and GenXers do.
Palia is catering to that young crowd just like most games are doing these days.

The game is not making a "big deal" about politics and modern issues, the community is doing so. The game, like many, are looking closely at representation and how it translates into gaming. Fallout 76 has LGBTQ+ flags and icons, New World allows you to select pronouns, and I know other games do similar.
Those things are there for the players to which they matter. Its like in my work. I use someone's preferred name and pronoun because its the nice, polite, correct and honorable thing to do. I respect games that go out of their way to do it too.
Bingo. It's about being respectful and civil to others regardless of whether they're in our social tribe or not.
It is baffling that anyone would be offended at having inclusion options. Personally, I'm glad people can refer to me as he/him. I'm a hetero male and I like having the option in a multiplayer game of being referred to as such.
They don't waste any time fretting about it or politicizing it like boomers and GenXers do.
A rebuttal wouldn't be appropriate here, but to claim boomers and genxers are responsible for making this political is... bizarre.
Go to any publicly funded college campus and as a member of the faculty and present opposition, politely, to the transgender movement and see how long you keep your job. The majority of people screaming at you will be millennials.
As someone who works at a college, @Iselin's comments are spot on. That millennial, Gen Z, etc... (younger) crowds do not make it political because it is an expectation that they have. A common characteristic of these younger generations is that they are vehemently against any form of oppression, prejudice, hate, etc.. They firmly believe, for the most part and studies show, they want to live their lives as they see fit as long as it does not trounce or impact negatively on someone else. Often they are anti-government as well in their leanings because they believe government should not stop people from getting married or choosing a partner or pronoun usage. It is quite an interesting study.
And I have never seen "polite" opposition to any sort of movement. Opposition is anything but polite. People may politely want to refrain from using someone's preferred pronouns or name but that is not polite to that person. Its as insulting as name calling and derogatory terms.
I don't work in a college but I have a daughter who is about to finish her MSW. I speak from experience watching and listening to her and her friends. Your description of their generations is exactly what I also see.
Their political issues are real things, not the forced and antiquated snarls meant to divide us into two camps.
