While I've played nearly none of these (1). Very bland list. Darkest Dungeon 2'd be my first go to, but the first one is, in my opinion, leagues better.
New stuff/ongoing, MMO - wise, WoW, FFXIV, ESO (Honorable mentions, Tera private server). Singleplayer, ... Dead Space.
Survivor..... Rice, Bio-Prototype. Nothing new stand out otherwise.. to me. Waitin' on stuff. Baldurs Gate 3, Rune Factory 3 pc. Other minor (non)minor mentions.
Sucks that the things I'd actually recommend are the same stuff we've been playing for years. (Prey, Terraria, Hollow Knight, Minecraft........... WoW.......
I guess my only recent recommend would be Astlibra. While other games might have more playtime, if you can stand sidescroller (metroidvania-ish) it is, in my opinion, the best in the genre.
I've at least read the reviews, watched the videos. At least in that regard I wouldn't call any of them goty. Darkest Dungeon 2 is quite the miss... to me. RE Village at least looks good. I guess, amnesia, also. It's all personal preference. The initial list. to me, was not a good look for this year., especially considering the hypothetical "WHAT A YEAR WE HAVE/HAD"
All of these are on pc since I only bought my ps5 last month
ARPG:
Diablo 4 is obviously hot atm
Last Epoch (on sale atm on steam)
Grim Dawn (on sale atm on steam)
Path of Exile
JRPG:
Persona 5 Royal (on sale atm on steam)
Trails of Cold Steel series ahead of Reverie tomorrow (or already out by the time you read this, and previous installments are on sale atm on steam)
FF7 Remake (on sale atm on steam)
Great humble bundle atm for the month of July with TemTem and Outer Worlds in it for 12$ (a steal if you ask me since both are around 30$ each on sale on steam atm)
Lol, etc etc etc. Exactly. Persona 5 is amazing, Trails of cold steel (I have issues with missables but) amazing, Path of Exile (I have serious issues but no contenders............) Grim Dawn is amazing, but I thiiiink I like Titan Quest better, somehow.
I do play league of legend but the new league is in 10 days, so i just play cassual.
My rank crawl got ruind by bad players anyway..not that om pro but i seems to attract these trolls in my games only.
Then i play path of exile but the league is soon ending and is sort of dead since it was to long a league this time.
I did play diablo 4 but the endgame grind was just not for me, so i sold my account !!!
And i play Warframe when there is a story update or expansion to play. The game it selv dosent hold my interrest for long tho.
I do look forward to Baldurs gate, Starfield, poe 2 and Lord of the fallen. Thats 3 must have games, but meanwhile im just so horrible bored with what i have...
About the game Demologist. Then i tryed the beta and it was spooky and scary to play but i dident understand how to use these ghost devices..and then there was a part where i had to talk in my mic to the ghost or somthing..confusing
Then there is the ESO necromance expansion, but im just tired of having these few skill bars in a mmorpg..im use to have tons of skill like in old vanilla wow.
Also ESO is very lore and story driven and i dont even listen or read any of it.
But since i like necromancer then ESO still haunts me a bit.
So maybe all this will tell you all what im in to.

I guess it depends on what one looks for in a game. The OP wanted to be hit with "something" presumably with the idea of being pleasantly surprised.
For my taste, I tend to like creepy, dark, games that are more about experiences or unique visuals and in some cases, story telling.
I imagine I don't play a lot of "games of the year" but my taste tends to lean more toward niche games with a few other exceptions.
The Jedi games, Fallen Order and Survivor. Together then tell an awesome Star Wars story and has great combat. Its also Cannon and ties into the story on D+.

I never was in to the whole starwars thing but thx for the suggestion
I just got Stranger of Paradise yesterday. I've only played it for a couple of hours, but I like it so far. It's an action game with fast paced combat, dodging, parrying, combos, etc. You go on missions with your party to kill enemies and find stronger loot. You can find find and equip different jobs (classes) that use different weapons give you access to unique skill trees and combos.
In terms of story, it's a prequal to FF1. I remember it got meme'd on a lot before it came out because of the trailer ("CHAOS"), but I actually kind of like the story so far and it even made me laugh a couple times.
The combat is somewhat similar to Nioh, which is also on sale, and also made by the same company I think. I got this one on PS4 when it came out, but I never got very far (just didn't have a lot of time then). It's highly praised, but beware, it's a very difficult game.

You could try GW2's necromancer. I find it to be a little less clunky compared to how ESO has their button law out but you kinda have the same amount of buttons overall (maybe a few more in GW2).
Then there's still WoW Classic or retail. Its wow so I'm sure you know the story can be whatever.
Honestly there isn't many pet focused classes in mmorpgs in general these days.
What kind of game are you looking for? RPG? Open world? MMO? Story driven? Arcade?
Hmm My main game is Mmorpg, then RPG like path of exile. Thats the 2 main games i love. Open world is also good like conan exile or rust and survival games.
I dont like arcades or side scroolers.
Elden ring was good tho for a solo game with some multiplayer functions.
I hate shooters cuz i cant aim.
Story driven games like Baldursgate and Torment is also good
