Final Fantasy 14 Coming to Xbox Spring 2024

Phil Spncer and Square Enix have mentioned bringing FF14 to Xbox for a few years now. There have been vague status updates, but nothing concrete for quite a while. Xbix Wire officially announced today that FF14 will be coming to Xbox Series consoles in spring. So, we more or less have a date. In the MMO world committing to a 3 month window seems pretty bold.

Anyone going to play on Xbox? Does anyone currently play on PS5?

That's exciting news for Final Fantasy XIV fans and Xbox Series console owners! The announcement that Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to Xbox Series consoles in spring provides a more specific timeframe for the release, which is indeed significant in the world of MMOs where development timelines can sometimes be uncertain.

It's great to see collaborations and partnerships like this, as they bring popular games to a wider audience and allow players on different platforms to enjoy the same experience. As you mentioned, committing to a three-month window for the release is a bold move, and it reflects the confidence that the developers and partners have in their ability to meet that timeline.

Keep an eye out for further updates and announcements as the spring release window approaches. It's always exciting when highly anticipated games become available to a new audience, and I hope fans of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series consoles have a fantastic experience once it arrives!

Bringing a 10 year old game to a new console feels like a waste of money to me. But then, I've no idea how much it would cost. I assume a lot.

I'm just happy Square-Enix is bringing more games to Xbox. I think letting Sony buy FF16 timed exclusivity was a mistake on their part and alienated some fans. Outside of that there have been a lot of good recent SE games on Xbox, like Diofield Chronicles, along with classics like ChronoCross.

MMOs aren't my thing anymore, but I might buy a base copy and play the low and mid-level content for a couple months. Limsa Lominsa is one of my favorite areas in any MMO and the crafting is fun, so a couple months won't kill me. Once it becomes about dungeons and raids, then I'm out.

But if the game will continue for another 10+ years, it could be worth the investment.

I bought the ChronoCross remaster on Xbox. It's more than 20 years old. Lots of old games are still very popular. Anyone browsing the Xbox subreddit can see that there are a lot of discussions about X360 era games.

My guess is that Square is finding there it has a lot of users on Xbox from games linked to their SE account. I own at least 3 SE games on Xbox that are linked to my SE Account, which is also linked to my FF14 account and all the games I own on Steam that are also linked. I bet Microsoft has also shared proprietary statistics with SE to encourage further development on their platform. Also, the SE games on GamePass have been very popular. It doesn't surprise me at all that FF14 would come to Xbox eventually.

Square Enix, CAPCOM, KEMCO, and other Japanese publishers are gaining a strong presence on Xbox. I'd love to see numbers to validate or correct that, but they keep bringing them and the response has been pretty positive looking at the ratings comments.

I played FF14 in like 2010 and it sucked, they need to make a third FF MMO and make sure it's good this time.
