BG3 is just the new flavor of the month and since it has explicit content and a dildo/grass slider in char creator, hoards of horny teenagers are jumping on it and review bombing it with high scores.
Like always and with every game (just like what happened recently with D4), just wait till the honeymoon period is over and the rose tinted glasses come off.
More and more people are reaching Act.2 now and discover how riddled it is with bugs. No surprise since we only had Act.1 in Early Access for 3 years.
So lets just see in a couple weeks how many people are still playing.
Does it have an adventure module builder like Solasta or NWN?
It appears they won't have any type of Dungeon Master mode. The game will have mod support.

Well, at least something. Wouldn't be surprised if in the end Solasta ended up as a better choice.
Why do I constantly compare, measure and review stuff?

Kind of depends on what you want. For replay and very interesting community content I think NWN and Solasta win hands down, despite not even being on the same plane graphically. For a lot of hardcore D&D players, those two games offer a lot.
The Baldur's Gate series hasn't ever been great for replay value in my opinion. Back in the day people did multiple plays through Icewind Dale 1/2, not BG 1/2.
For me NWN and Solasta offer what I'm looking for despite their flaws. Their rules are solid, close to the source, and work with community building/homebrew content. Baldur's Gate isn't like that at all. It's highly tailored to the game and building new adventures on that would take a lot of work, if they worked at all.
Maybe you compare a lot of games because there are so many to play and you have to make choices at some point. It's hard not to. BG3 is on my list, but lots of stuff before it including Dark Alliance I and II, which I've never played.

I guess it depends on the game. I can tell you that Baldur's Gate 3 is more captivating, for me, than Solasta. I suppose part of it is that the characters all stand in a weird post in a row when decisions are made.
I still think they did a good job but I'm enjoying myself much more in Baldur's Gate 3.

Personally I am not paying attention to this game for now.... because of their move to add console wars to the situation. Ripping on Series S as not an option they can optimize the game for but they manage to make it run like a dream on Steam Deck and yes, you can play split screen on the Steam Deck LOL. I hate Drama and Games mixing. I hate it even more when studios do it. I wont be buying this still its on a really good sale on Xbox, I will not be paying them full price.

I don't particularly care about cinematic stuff. And overt focus on graphic. To me that's money foolishly spent, but I know why you do that. Solasta was to me very fun, very replayable and, most importantly to me, I don't have to worry about viability. Like I have to in Owlcatfinders.
Ofc, I am going to play BG 3 eventually, but I am in no rush. Let it simmer, let it get fixed and more mods appear*. Kinda like with D4. I am after great experiences after all(hedonism lol) and waiting for those is WORTH IT. And then some.
*compare vanilla Solasta and Unfinished Business Solasta. I dare you to pick vanilla.
I do enjoy wonderful cutscenes and a good story. I loved playing through DOS2 twice. Each time I chose different options. I have a poor memory so I wrote down each choice to make a different one the second time. I love good looking games with good stories and BG 3 is this. I am buying it when I return from my 6 week holiday.
I also loved the Pathfinder rules and Wrath of the Righteous. Solasta too. There is no need to be exclusive and just pick one. That's the wonder of games they're all there to be played and enjoyed. No need to form camps. No one is judging you for loving BG3 or not liking it. Just enjoy it. Good games are hard to come by and this is definitely a good game.
Can't say im interested in BG3. I did play BG2 back in the day but I just don't enjoy Bioware's games, the combat was always terrible and I hated the companions. I'm also not a Dungeons and Dragons player.
However
I have played Divinity: OS and im currently playing OS2. I'm enjoying the coop, and the turn-based combat works really well for my brother who is disabled. So, with BG3 being built by the same studio, there is a fair chance I'll end up buying this in a sale at some point in the future.

I really love how hardcore and uncompromising a roleplaying game BG3 turned out to be.
From character creation on you're asked the tough questions.
Like this pointbuy 27 system. You cant get the uber stats. You have to make a real choice there already.
The many rolls in dialogues and the many other choices make sure every game can be completely unique from any other game.
I also think the implementation of D&D5 is amazing. They dont slavishly followed the original definition, but made careful and intelligent changes to it. For example they threw out alignments completely. Turns out, nobody misses them.
Of course no rulesystem is perfect. For example D&D5 only seems further away from satisfying multiclassing than ever.

You can't have a D&D game without Alignments. Otherwise, how does the Planar Cosmology work? Remember, Outsiders(Devils, Agathions etc) can't choose their Alignment. They ARE their Alignment.
Now, it needs intelligent implementation, not removal. Because then you don't have a D&D game. No, you have an RPG simply using D&D rules. It's different.
Again, D&D is just a rulesystem, not a religion. If you want to treat the design of D&D as a sequence of dogmas, and treat every deviation as a personal insult, thats your perogative, but I'm not interested in discussing any rulesystems like that.
Alignment is a bad idea for storytelling. The characters in BG3 have layers, and the removeal of alignment greatly helps with that. Shadowheart for example is a brainwashed victim of a cult. Her goddess is officially evil. But is Shadowheart evil ? We have no alignment of Shadowheart, so we cannot know. In fact we have no idea that Shadowheart is even worshipping an evil deity until we find out.
It works very, very well within the game. I find BG3s storytelling stronger than the one in BG1 and BG2.
The one BIG complaint I have about BG3 is how poorly the romances are written. I hope we'll get an option "disable homosexual romances" with Patch 2 (Patch 1 will only be bugfixes). The way you get three men aggressively hit on you, whow. Anything like that never ever happened to me in reallife. Quite frankly I get super aggressive if another man violates my private space, and boy are these three doing just that in BG3, big time. I'm tempted to just kill all three of them every time now, instead of allowing them into my party in the first place.

Firstly, we need video games to take a look at all the other great table-top systems out there some of which are better than DnD for fantasy. For some of you that may be heresy, but there it is.
If video games are going to stick with DnD the first thing you need to get rid of are Alignments. They are a straight jacket which most table top GM's just ignore for characters while keeping for the system or tweaking.
Think about it, the alignments were moral philosophies which players and NPCs had to follow slavishly, they had no place in an RPG and WotC is beginning to realise that.
But unlike Adamantine said alignments have not been dropped by WotC. What has happened is they are just guide lines for players. You have one but it is descriptive, rather than prescriptive as it used to be. But there are many intelligent creatures that were created, for them their alignment is far more prescriptive.
Also just to comment on your last, there are many versions of the DnD rules in tabletop some of which are better in my eyes, if we must have DnD video games they would be an obvious choice.

Don't agree at all. Why shouldn't a role playing game have alignments if the game world revolves around them?
Heck, the Elric Books were all about alignments.
It's how they are implemented that is the key.

BG3 has some truely awesome storytelling, better than any other game I know of.
None of these D&D book has ever left much of an impression on me. As far as storytelling goes, they are simply pretty lame. Uuuuh, Raistlin has pupils like hour glasses. Err ... sure. Amazing. Truely. Thats not on the nose at all. *snore*
Alignments encourage such stereotypical writing. Oh impressive another elf that snuggles with trees. Another dwarf thats constantly drunk. How ... interesting. Tell me more.
I didn't make it real far, but so many things bugged me about the game. Character creation being fairly obtuse (I'd chalk 80% of it down to my being drunk when first creating, but by the same standard the pre whatever had better creations with same scenario). Same token the nudity (don't get me wrong, I love nudity, its normally the first thing I add to every game). But it needs to be warranted. Issues with camera (due to ship door arcs), camera swinging for cutscenes showing the edges of the skybox/map edges. The dice rolls constantly failing (90% of the time on high rolls). Why even have dice rolls on bs? I'll go back to the game eventually but..... ffs... BG2 was a million years ahead of it. BG1, was nigh equal (less qol but pure good gameplay). Both, far cries above this.
Looking back on the replies in the thread, and seeing mentions of Solasta, makes me go (for both games) I guess I also inherently hate actions on my bar. Pure actions. It's for abilities. Having jump (ie across gaps) and the like broadens the game but seriously, the way its implemented reminds me of qtes really, garbage....
Err, I disabled all the nudity bullshit before ever playing. I dont need or want nudity in my games, thank you very much. Its literally just pixels.
Also Karmic Dice. The later might have caused your problem. I have played quite a few D&D games and none ever had this riddiculous option in the first place. It doesnt help that in BG3 this idiotic option is not only present, but has a really poor implementation, and is on by default.
D&D is a geeky roleplaying system if you dont know what you're doing you can create a pretty awful character.
Again, D&D is just a rulesystem, not a religion. If you want to treat the design of D&D as a sequence of dogmas, and treat every deviation as a personal insult, thats your perogative, but I'm not interested in discussing any rulesystems like that.

While I agree with your first paragraph the rest isn’t necessarily true. Alignments are only a recognition of a characters actions. Continuous types of actions infer an alignment. Storytelling is full of alignments. They might not be black and white but they can be there.
Sometimes those alignments aren’t evil/good but capulets and montagues, or the rich and the poor.
What makes shadowheart’s plight more interesting is how her original alignment is one thing and the diety is something else entirely.
heck the whole Elric series is based on alignments.

Has anyone bought games on Steam with crypto before? I would like to spend some of my altcoins to buy Baldur's Gate 3. Today I found a platform where you can buy Steam gift cards.
What are your thoughts on this? So far, I have no confidence. The platform is called by the way [trash malware].
Nobody here will be using that service because they use bots to advertise, which means they're liars and con men right out of the gate.

What a load of crap, it thoroughly deserves the reviews. A lot of the positive reviews are from older people like me, whom have been craving a good crpg in the D&D universe for years, ever since BG, BG2, IC 1 and 2, NWN, NWN 2 (Which eventually turned out to be a good game after years of bug fixes and patches) were released.
Gameplay, Graphics, Music (especially music), Story and Characters are all as good if not better than any other crpg released to date.
On top of the above, they showed the punters (and more notably other AAA studios) that an AAA studio could deliver an original, top quality game with relatively few bugs (with the size of the game and the number of ways there are to complete certain tasks, their are always bound to be some), no micro transactions, no gatcha systems, what's not to love?
