Starfield DLSS mod coming on day 1

EDIT:  This is fake news. Modder Pure-Dark came out on Reddit and said that the news about him receiving a review copy of the game is not true.

He is releasing DLSS support mod and expects to get it done very quickly, but the article from wccftech.com that I used as a source for this post had fake news. Sorry. /EDIT

After about two to four months when you have read the reviews get of of the couch and have a look at buying the game. Then when you do decided to dive in the game will be as smooth as they come.

    FSR may not be as good as DLSS but it's not exclusive to AMD HW - it works with all graphics cards... even the older 1000 series nvidia cards that can't do DLSS.

    This would mean whatever game I was playing was finished, problem is that once I started I would want to play it. Just having a look would be like giving a kid a jar of candy and then putting it away because he has to eat his greens. So much better to wait till it's polished.

    That alludes to another general principle I have, there are 47 (yes I just counted!) games I have bought but not yet played. They get played in order of genre worst to best. Now when I say worst I am just talking relatively and I don't in hindsight always get the order right. But by doing that I don't go, "geez this rpg is good but BG3 was great...sigh." :)

    This is true and I'm in that group. I have an older (2020) MSI 1660ti and use FSR because Nvidia doesn't support their "old" hardware with new features. I use FSR and FSR2 on a lot of games that offer it since my card is getting weak.

    Xbox is built on AMD hardware and (I think, but didn't confirm) fully implements RDNA2, so Bethesda paying AMD to help optimize for their hardware makes sense. They don't want to repeat a Ghostwire scenario, or worse Redfall.

    I appreciate the update to the original article. It's still good news that someone is adding the mod. Here's hoping Starfield fully supports the same modding and Creation Club framework Skyrim and Fallout 4 do.

    Agreed. Nothing beats hands-on experience for making informed purchase decisions.

    I bought the Premium upgrade at 20% off and will deal with licensing the base game in December 2024 when GamePass is up for renewal. I'm going to play it regardless of whatever problems or jank it launches with, so I wanted the Day 1 DLC, fluffy cosmetics and art, and the 5 day early access.

    My gold standard for launches this year has been Hogwarts Legacy. It was mostly smooth, with a few performance and display issues, with quick responsive patches.

    I will probably break my rule of not buying a game until it has been released for 6 months at least, a year is better.

    Pinning a lot of hopes on Starfield, No Man's Sky almost did it ... almost.

    This would mean whatever game I was playing was finished, problem is that once I started I would want to play it. Just having a look would be like giving a kid a jar of candy and then putting it away because he has to eat his greens. So much better to wait till it's polished.

    So what do you do when that game you waited on for 6 months then has a big patch or expansion?  Do you wait another 6 months for that to settle down?  Or what if you start a game 4 months in and then they have a big patch/expansion a month later?  Do you pause playing for 4 months again?

    This is a good point, it has led to me extending my three months after launch rule for up to a few years! What I do is first access how likely the game is to get big updates, Bethesda are known for that others are not. For solo player what I have seen is that if a game does not have a major update within about a year of release it is unlikely to get one, buy and play bearing in mind that once bought it could take me a year or more to get round to playing it! If it does have a major update after a year, leave it another year.

    This may seem like ages to you, but I have games coming out of my ears as yet unplayed. If a mistake is made and a new big content comes out it is very unlikely I will go back to the game.

    For multiplayer I work on 'is this a game one of the guilds will play'? If not I treat it like a solo game, if it is I will come in with them. It is a pain of a situation, but I do get to play most of my games in a far, far more playable and content rich state than most players which is why I do it.
