The best music in any MMO is where I can set the sound level of music to zero and listen to whatever the hell I actually would like to listen.
In every game I have ever played I very quickly find the in-game music getting repetitive and irritating at which point I silence it permanently and, like you, listen to the radio or the music I have on my hard drive.
"No competition"? Without a doubt you haven't listened to the music composed by Jeremy Soule, composer of Elder Scrolls and for this question, Guild Wars.
I have no real idea tbh. I find game music to be something I don't like. It's just noise for me. I keep it on, but at a very low volume so it's very much in the background.
I'm probably in the minority, but I can't stand music in MMOs. The first thing I do is turn it off or put it super low, so that it's barely audible.
Nothing wrong with being in the minority, but why? I can understand if the music is crap or you have heard it a zillion times and want a break, but some (AOC is just one example) is part and parcel of why MMOs can be great games.
