    How are developers ever going to "get it right" when their sample test beds are so small. Make a 20k closed beta, make an open beta.. patch and get paid. Someone needs to get mmos back on track with regulatory in produiction cycle and do real early access____to_____release

    I actually think LotRO was the last real test cycle I've been in and that 15 years ago... ridiculous management and marketing not just with this title but at places like NcSoft ...

    Now that the cat is out of the bag on the fact people will pay to get access to beta, you can wave goodbye to a proper closed/open beta. Publishers are not going to leave that money on the table. Problem with a paid beta, though, is people who paid for the game already have a different mindset than someone invited to a closed beta. If you paid for the game you're there to play the game, not test it. Report bugs? That's someone else's problem, I'm not your employee. If the game is in a bad state I'm just going to post all over social media about it, not log a ticket. I believe that's a big contributor to the lack of quality in today's games.

    Just another revenue method which is going to give us poorer games at launch. If we didn't have this, early access etc etc I am convinced we would not get half the launch complaints from players we do. But that does not seem to be hitting their pocket so they just aren't bothered about the complaints.

    I mean if you make the bug reporting system simple and convenient enough, I think you'll still get the feedback you need.

    I dunno. I want to oppose the early access model on principle, but this model also gave us Hades and Baldur's Gate 3. It's just another tool that can be really bad or really good.

    Just make it where, if the game fails due to being a broken, buggy mess, the studio can hold testers accountable for the revenue loss.
    Don't give them ideas ffs! :D
