It didn’t look like that in the article. It was a side note by the author.
Maybe I read that wrong but if not others did.

Yes, if you actually watch the interview, he said exactly that.
    Here is the quote:

"I asked our audience, what would you ask Todd?" co-host Ed Ludlow said. "Big question for many, 'Why did you not optimise this game for PC?'"

"We did, it's running great," Todd Howard said while Phil Spencer laughed. "It's a next-gen PC game, we really do push the technology. So, you may need to upgrade your PC for this game, but it's got a lot of great stuff going on in it, and the fans are responding awesome."

But like I said before my poor opinion of Howard does not mean I think less of the studio. Sf looks like it could do with some updates, well it has already been getting them, by the time I buy I still see no issues.

Well upgrading to play a game on PC is pretty normal.
Doom, Myst, EQ, Max Payne, EQ2, Crysis, Baldur's Gate 3
Not a real issue with PC gamers.

I agree, it is often the case that these issues occur, I think it is more the way Todd uses that as a deflection that annoyed some. But again, we are arguing personalities, we are not playing them.

Yeah sure, when they actually do push new technology. It can be justified. But this game doesn't. It's woefully behind many major AAA releases from the last couple years.

As example. When both Death Stranding and Cyberpunk 2077 run better on my PC (both I can run at Ultra without issues with my 3080ti) than this game.....both games that actually did push latest technology and features....  I rest my case.

Like @Scot already implied. The studio isn't the problem, Todd Howard is.

His dev team can at least be commended what they managed to deliver with Starfield on their heavily outdated game engine. There is great talent there!
One can only imagine what this team could have pulled off, if they were actually allowed to work on a modern day Game Engine and toolset. /sigh

    Weird.

I dont care about ground vehicles and I really like the game however the optimization is shit and lots of people are CTD right and left.

On Twitter aka X  Todd had the nerve to say the game was very well optimized and maybe people needed to upgrade their PC's for this next gen game....I think he said it during an interview or w/e too.

Todd is full of shite and this comment is meme worthy just like the "Don't You Guys Have Phones? comment was....lol

If the game was optimized people wouldn't need a damned 3080+ gpu to run it adequately on lower settings.

Like seriously CP77, Hogwarts etc run miles better on my PC with no crashing issues and with mods galore in CP77 and CP77 look way better....lol

I am hoping either a patch (wont hold my breath) or the modding community will figure this crapola out and make a mod to fix the CTD lots of us are having......

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

It runs fine at 1440p on my older Ryzen 3700 and 2070 Super as well.

I was wondering if it was something to do with a little older cards but seems not. I have read people with prior to your cards not report issues.
I actually get better frames with Starfield than I do with BG3, granted BG3 has more settings to fiddle with.
Besides that the mods are already coming in hot and some of them are great.

For a game that has space ships and laser beams, not having ground vehicles makes no sense.

    True.

But past some point, it's a game not a simulation. Travelling around, carrying stuff around, passage of time, and other similar stuff are there to support core gameplay, and they can be as unrealistic as the dev decides.

For the record it runs fine on my ancient 1060 :)

Medium settings, and got rid of that film effect. I have had zero issues playing it. Looks pretty good although Im sure it looks better in 4k.

Are you talking about a mod to get rid of the effects or is there a setting I missed? I'd like to get rid of them too.

What I was trying to say is that you're a loser and need to get a life. Your dumb ass keeps popping up in every starfield thread with stupid comments defending it as if your life depends on it.

Also, what a retarded comment you made. "I have a top of the line card! No trouble here!" Idiot.
    wow that escalated quickly

Ah, that setting. I thought you guys were talking about the game's default Reshade-like filters that are on by default as shown in this video.

The mod apparently works well in the PC game pass version of the game with just a change to one line in the Starfield.ini text file

I utterly hate the mod community. For exactly what you just said. It's like street rat elitism.
Well if it wasn't for the modding community, we would never have gotten this for Skyrim back then:

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim_Mod:Unofficial_Skyrim_Patch#:~:text=Though the stand-alone patches,DLC but not the other.

Just one prime example how modders do a better job than Bethesda.
Skyrim would have been a much poorer experience without that Unofficial Skyrim patch mod!
As back then Bethesda had pretty much moved on from Skyrim and left plenty of game breaking bugs in the game unfixed.
So, in this case, this mod team deserve all the praise they could get!
So I asked my buddies who work at a large IT section in our hospital.

They have played Skyrim since day one and still play it just making new characters and builds each time. And they never ever heard of this.

What's silly, and also weird, is that you consider a visual mod "finishing the game's development"

Changing a game so it visually or perhaps, alters game elements to a player's taste is not finishing a game.

It's altering the game to one's taste.

I have a theory about disenfranchised gamers who don't make games but who are armchair developers and diss on actual developers; extolling mod makers who are many times working off of what has come before. However, I won't stand on my soap box for that one tonight.

Modss for a triple AAA title, is sacriledge to me. you can try and diss me all you like, but the fact that someone at Bethesda couldn't see their effects was crap, kind of tells me they didnt give a lot of effort on making a AAA game experience.

Skyrim was a AAA experience at launch. Mods help the game age better, not redo the effects suite Bethesda threw at the game.

Modders have my full respect, they really do  specially with helping game age. But a month in and the game needs reshaded, that is just piss poor effort by bethesda imho.

And the funniest part, there's not a thing they can do about quality of products anymore because of the union... THis is what Unionization gets you a lack lust product, bethesda will shutter in a few years. 20% of the entire budget was most likely pushed out for Union dues...

I use mods in so many games on PC it would feel weird to not have them.
    Mostly in AAA games.

Sheesh you really don't like Bethesda.

Personally, I think Starfield is better than Skyrim.
