Decry save scumming? What does it matter? It’s a single player or small party game. It doesn’t affect everyone.
If a save system can show players many outcomes and/or tailor the story to their liking, who cares?
Good review. I look forward to getting back to the game. I’m finding act 1 a bit lackluster.
Probably because I’m trying to get to a quest point and keep running into dead ends so lots of back tracking.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I was leery at first when I heard Larian was doing BG3 because I really didn't want a DOS:2.5 but they went so far beyond that and really set a new standard for party-based CRPG gaming.
Anyone who misses it is really missing something special.
Frontrunner for GOTY, IMO.

Simply put a masterpiece and games like this, from companies like this show how far companies like Blizzard have fallen. Larian, Crate, From Software are all companies that put out such high quality games that you know the creators truly LOVE games and strive to make something they want to play. When games are made for love and enjoyment of those making them, and not simply only profit and shareholder dividends, you get games like Divinity 1/2 and Elden Ring, and Grim Dawn. All 3 of the companies listed are instant buys for me based on everything I've played by them in the past the same way Blizzard and Bioware used to be. Larian has earned the right to both take a rest and be very proud of their hard work that will likely be played for a decade or more as the king of CRPG's because I sure as hell can't see anything surpassing this in the genre anytime soon.

Interesting take. Personally, I still think Solasta is the best example of this type of game we have seen in many many years. I love that game.
New Arc Line is another like this coming out next year that I think has massive potential and I am super excited about.
Pretty good game so far. Finished act 1, so far I'd rate it 7.5 or maybe even 8/10.
It's a bit too much like Divinity and not enough like BG2 for my personal liking, but those long ass tactical battles that require me to think and use every advantage in the environment I can find are damn good.
Phenomenal game a well deserved 10.0. I'm about to wrap up Act II, but I liked Act II better then Act 1. Can't wait to see how huge Baldurs Gate is in Act III.
I really hope Larian gets GOTY for this game.

Honestly, this game has me rethinking how we do GOTY awards at the site. But that’s a thread for another day. Enjoy, mate. It’s a wild ride!
When I said AAA games were not delivering a few months ago, this game was not what I meant, lol. I've been thoroughly enjoying it and think it delivers what it promises in a way that many other studios just forget is possible - its largeness isn't a consequence of the current size of games, it's a result of a specific creative vision that's fully felt.
My only fear is that it won't win game of the year; because we've been here before, remember? Annnnnd it wasn't that long ago.
Remember the year when that super duper divisive sony game won pretty much all of the awards and the amazing game that actually deserved it barely got anything?
You know it's going to be a repeat of that? right? This is why we need to 100% get rid of the rating system and awards ceremonies.

From what has been said it easily deserves game of the year and partly because it came out in such a good state compared to anything else this year. But a 10? I always think no game could be a 10, but certainly if any game should get a 10 this year it is this one.
The sad truth is we don't get that many games (not just RPG's) made with this depth these days, Larian have pulled it out of the bag again. I wonder how long before they get bought up and put onto making a shooter?
"I am particularly interested in the Dark Urge and will likely play him in one of my future playthroughs. But, he’s not a Drow, so it might take a bit for me to get to him. "
Actualy, the dark urge is a "random" character. the only preset story line you can play that you cant encounter as a companion. during creation you will see you can change its race, class. so it can be a drown thief. or a human warlock.. male or female. whatever you wish it to be.
Its only kept as a choose rather then the default setting to play as "random" due to its dark background and some things you just cant avoid. but as any character, you can choose to be evil or good.
I highly recommencement playing as a dark urge as its the character most connected to the previous baldurs gate games.
It's a good game, but not the kind of game I can get into for long periods at a time or be the only game I play. It's just too slow and too reliant on constantly saving and restarting if you get bad rolls.
While it's a good game, it isn't a 10/10 game. I would give it a solid 8-8.5.
Since the fastest play through was 3 days, I'll call you a straight out liar. I have no idea why anyone would even do it that fast since you would have to skip every cutscene in order to do it and probably have to use mods to give you the ability to race through the battles.
Multiplayer does not mean coop. Multi does not mean less than 50 people.
Game does look beautiful. Does deserve high standard stamp.
Not my type of game. I'm not story driven. Pretty characters and neat world. But silly comparing it to massive mulitplayers. Like comparing a dishwasher to a hydraulic lift. Cause they're both tools, ya see? Not. Even. Close.

Yea I don't do cutscenes they break immersion for me (turns it like into a joke or something.) And it was my day off started 8 am and got through before I went to bed.

Overrated, but such is the norm for this game.

There is no way unless you unless you had a "death ending"
