Multiplayer does not mean coop. Multi does not mean less than 50 people.
Game does look beautiful. Does deserve high standard stamp.
Not my type of game. I'm not story driven. Pretty characters and neat world. But silly comparing it to massive mulitplayers. Like comparing a dishwasher to a hydraulic lift. Cause they're both tools, ya see? Not. Even. Close.
Who compared it to Massively Multiplayer games? Where in there do I say it is an MMO? It's very clearly a multiplayer RPG, but multiplayer doesn't have to mean 1,000 people, it quite literally just has to mean more than one.

So you're saying that there are coop games that are not multiplayer? That seems like a hard thing to pull off.
Multiplayer means more than one person. That's it. 2 people is multiplayer.

I wouldn't give any game a perfect score but BG3 comes very close. The only thing holding it back is the performance issues I was having on PC. One of my favourite games of the last 10 years. I had Elden Ring last year and this year I have BG3. Great time to be a gamer.

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
In early access there were folk who racked up 1000's of hours in the EA version of ACT1, which is all we had access to, but act1 is pretty fucking massive, even in EA it was massive.
As soon as i'm done with Starfield i want to get back to my Drow OoTA Paladin playthrough, which is really fun, being a Drow just hits differently. xD

Multiplayer requires that a game can be concurrently played by more than one player.
Cooperative requires that those playing the game must work together rather than at cross purpose.
BG3 is both multiplayer and cooperative.
What BG3 isn't is massively so, but that was never the intent of or claim for the game and won't be the basis on which it was reviewed.
Not often will agree with the general shill like approach of mmorpg writers but BG3 is ridiculously good and keep finding new stuff, quests and ways to do things.
Between this and Hogwarts Legacy "Triple A" studios aka "how many microtransactions and battlepasses can we bilk people for" studios have been put on blast
Since the fastest play through was 3 days, I'll call you a straight out liar. I have no idea why anyone would even do it that fast since you would have to skip every cutscene in order to do it and probably have to use mods to give you the ability to race through the battles.
I thought the fastest playthrough was under 10 hours.
Don't get me wrong. If someone did complete the game quickly, they completely missed the point of a game like this and it's no wonder they didn't like it. Powergamers are the worst.

I don't think it's that they missed the point. I think it's that they have discovered a different axis of experience within video games.
So, just like there are people who don't care for story in games as well as people who want story, there are players who love different ways of experiencing a game.
With speed runners they are interested in working within the mechanics of a game and even capitalizing on various glitches in order to make it from one end of the game to the other.
It's not about story or different paths or maybe even better twitch skills but more about finding the best path from start to finish.

For me it starts off as a 9.5 and meanders into a 9 and settles on a solid 8.5
So, just like D:OS games?
Not really.
That's what I was expecting but I was very pleasantly surprised. They've upped their game tremendously since the DOS games, especially with character personalities, storytelling, and game pacing.
It's far better than the DOS games IMO.

It’s so good! It’s like they really knew the things players liked the most about BioWare games from BG1-DA:O and distilled it into the best western rpg in a decade
Ironically, I'll probably never touch it considering how unlike the first two games it actually is. It's more of another Dragon-Age than a Baldur's Gate sequel. I'd consider anything that's emblematic of 5e to be kind of a dumpster fire by default. It's the edition of little to no player lethality. The edition of heterochromia half-orc demon winged intersexed spawn of a nephalim that's multiclassed four or five different ways. It's for the deviant art and tik tok tourists that have adopted D&D after Critical Roll and Stranger Things made it socially viable. And that's all clearly reflected in the anachronistic and quippy writing. Qualities that are all totally unlike the first two games. If it weren't called Baldur's Gate 3, I wouldn't have many qualms, but.... it is.

I come back on in the morning, no idea how we lost two posters; hopefully both OG Solareus and my nemesis Iselin are back soon. Yes and Iselin too, because you can't have a great game without a great nemesis!

What exactly happened?
No, idea that's what comes of not being here when the US is in the evening time zone. Posts may well have been deleted which is for the best as is wipes the slate clean. Anyway hoping they are both back soon.

I'm not referring to the point of the game as an individual. I'm referring to the point as it was made by the developers.
The point of the game was to follow the story and make choices to turn the story into your journey. It was not to look for bugs, glitches or a different axis. You can't build a game around, or cater to, these players in any way. That may be how they like to play, but that doesn't mean their opinion matters in how or why the game is good or bad since they didn't remotely play the game the way it was intended to be played.
That was back in 2013, my question is do you think this site or any like it would even review a game like that now? I don't think they would, is that censorship or just recognising we don't need "a shameful and degrading experience"? I can see it both ways myself.

I get that 5e isn't for you but the writing definitely isn't anachronistic, quite the opposite in fact and both of the earlier BG (main) games definitely had their quippy moments.

People who play differently and like it are ok. Even if the game was made for its story, as long as you like it you're free to play it any way you wish.
But people bash the game because it's not good for a playstyle it was never intended to are jerks.

If it was being rated as a sex sim it wouldn't get anywhere close to 10/10.
