As with many MMORPGs, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen's development journey has seen its fair share of changes and evolutions. One of the most recent and significant changes was highlighted in the September Producer's Letter: a brand new art direction.

I'm just waiting for a F2P overhyped sandbox WoW clone with full PVP, epic raid bosses, instanced group content, and Crysis-quality graphics to come out. That, or something fun.
This move was made because this is hail Mary of a game and its now moved from that to a snow balls chance in hell. It's unlikely this game will ever launch but it is the game (still) I most want to see launch. I personally am not turned off by art styles. As long as they are done in a pleasing and thought out way. This game for me has always been about the play style you just can't find anymore.
These are giving major ugly Palia graphic vibes. No offense to anyone who enjoys art styles made for 10 year old children.
Maybe people need to focus on content and how the game feels / runs over how it looks and maybe these studios will be able to actually make games that don't suck ass.
Aesthetics > graphics. In this case though, both are bad.
They have taken the graphics down a notch and like you say though it is not pastels it leans to that. It certainly does not make the game look "unique" indeed it looks more common now.

I'm betting a launch in under five years is probably wishful thinking.
Now don't get me wrong I think going from unity assets to inhouse art is great but the entire reason to use the unity assets in the first place was to speed up production. This will do nothing but slow it down. Making more concept art, more models, etc. If you wanted to go the freedom to make the art you want route sure but saying it's going to cost less and be faster than buying assets off the unity store is just press X to doubt.
By the time you get 3 or so minutes into that video it contradicts everything they just said in this article about it being faster and costing less.
I'm not a 3D artist but this just makes me raise an eyebrow. Any insights further explaining how this is going to make things cost less and speed things up would be welcome.
I'm not seeing it.
