The game was already bleeding what little fanbase it had, due to the explicit lack of a game after more than five years of development.
To suggest it would be "outdated" once it releases if it keeps the current pace is an understatement. Used to have faith in it myself, but definitely have been losing that faith.
That said the timing on the leak is sorta...interesting...with the backlash for the art style among other things. Hopefully more details follow.
Either way by the time Pantheon comes out it is very likely going to be coming out in a landscape where better stuff exists -- shoot, better stuff currently exists.
I hope this comes to a noble conclusion. The whispers of what may be coming looks bad. Still waiting for the full details but in no way does this look good, this coming from one of their biggest supporters.

The timing isn't surprising. 247 just recently launched. Someone threw down $750-$1000 and ended up playing what they didn't expect to play. Now they're pissed. Seems quite clear to me.
And the article from mmobomb sounds like they've been getting multiple emails regarding pantheon recently. So looks like multiple disgruntled people.
After reading the article on mmobomb, it definitely sounds like they’ve squandered away money and were too reliant on continued support with a lack of production. These turds have been lying for a while and it’s finally caught up to them.
The state of game development has went the way of the world. Greed rules their lives. They don't have to produce anything because us as fans will pay just for the dream of what they claim they will build. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice. Well you know the rest. Everquest was the best game ever in my honest opinion. I remember when I first heard about it. I remember it was only a year later it was out. I had hoped this game would be similar. When Brad died. My faith that this game would come out, diminished. I think they are setting up for another money grab and that will be the last we hear about Pantheon.

I don't this is a case of greed. This team has put their hearts into this project. Many of them worked for years for free. IMO this is a last ditch effort to try and make this project a reality.

I disagree. What makes you think they weren’t getting paid? Where do you think the money that’s raised goes? They definitely squandered the money away. They were banking on the continued backing of supporters, but over time, supporters fell off and now they’re in a “oh crap” situation. This game should be much further in development. The development team are developers and not CFO’s. In my opinion, they’ve not managed their monies well over the years which have landed them in a tough spot. I foresee the same thing happening with Ashes of Creation. Eventually, most backers will reach a ceiling on providing financial support, which lands developers who rely on them for financial support in these types of situations. The unfortunate reality is, it takes a lot of money…and only a lot of money comes from investors…investors drive poor decisions…games suck because investors drive poor decision making. It’s very difficult to sustain development in making a solid game without investors. This is why good games are hard to find nowadays.
I hate to say this - but it’s clear that this studio is lacking in the talent department.
First scrapping most of their work after several years of development in Unity, as they were simply unable to make it work properly. Then claiming everything is much faster and easier with the new engine - even if it looks like they’re making much slower progress.
Then they’ve stranded completely on the network streaming - which they still haven’t solved.
Then, after getting some criticism on lack of visual fidelity progress…it was time to swap to WoW anno 2004.
This game is probably reaching the «spiral stage». We’ll get «assurances», some more screenshots…then things will start slowing down until we barely remember it existed…before we get some minor press notification that development has stopped and the studio has been disbanded
I will say this - if this game, CU, and several others launch anything close to a playable game (in the context of their promises), I will write an editorial indicating how wrong I was, ask for forgiveness and happily eat my words. I have no concerns I will ever have to do that.
No you won't because no one will remember some random anonymous schmo on said the same thing hundreds of other random anonymous schmo's have been saying on mmorpg for years. Also, no one cares. Why bother?
I find it amusing the number of people that expect actual industry experts to monitor these boards and give a single shit about what's said in them.
Even Cohhcarnage has expressed his concern on his stream and said that he thinks this game won’t see the light of day. Considering he actually is an investor (albeit passive) shows that VR (Visionary Realms) have dropped the ball. 12 months from now- company and game will be closed. There is no way in hell that they will bounce back from this clown show approach.

25k on Sub reddit is not bad. Its more than enough to get snowballing. However they managed to burn em all. If you go to the sub now - people are literally giving them the middle finger.
For me the crowed funded MMORPG dream is dead, the successes there have been like Albion Online show you all such projects can hope to achieve. AO is not my sort of MMORPG though it clearly has traction, so I find it hard now to see how any MMORPG made with primarily CF finance will ever be for me.

I would look at what Albion online did right, not what type of game it is.
The issue with crowdfunding is the that it allows either inexperienced developers a chance to “try” or experienced developers a chance at complete freedom but not necessarily having enough resources and talent to finish a game.
Since games do launch from crowdfunding I suspect what’s needed is for an experienced developer to be honest about the costs of such an endeavor. I doubt given how high those costs are and what they need to show in order to entice crowdfunding, they would be able to make their ask.

Its common knowledge. They had many years with no funding. Many of the staff worked on the game for free. People were working other jobs and working on Pantheon on weekends and evenings for free. You can disagree but its a well known fact.
My last salary was $8,750 only worked 12 hours a week. My longtime neighbor estimated $15,000 and works about 20 hours for seven days. I can’t believe how blunt vs04 he was when
I looked up his information,
