imageARK: Survival Ascended Performance Issues Lead To Review Bombing As Studio Wildcard Furiously Deploys Hotfixes | MMORPG.com

ARK: Survival Ascended developer Studio Wildcard probably hoped for a better reception when it stealth-launched last week. Since hitting Steam, players have complained of performance issues and more in the wake of the release, leading to Steam review bombing. Meanwhile, the developer has been deploying hotfixes to stabilize things.

This new review bombing fad is so stupid, so childish. It really shows just how sad and pathetic gamers can be.

Review bombing is not new.... it's been going on for years on Steam. People are too nitpicky..... they expect the game to be perfect when it is in early access. LOL

Wait the new iteration of ARK has got serious performance issues?
I am SHOCKED! In fact I am so shocked that I'll have to buy it just to write a bad review about how SHOCKED I am!

In this case I have ZERO empathy for the developers. They have produced buggy and performance-lacking garbage since day one. This is basically like Bethesda's re-releasing yet another version of Skyrim all over with a new engine, while looking about the same, but performs much worse. This while also gimping the functionality, since the expansions are not following.

Review-bomb how much you want. I hope no one buys this garbage. Early Access or not, the performance is NEVER going to be improved to a reasonable level.

Well to me if it is in early access why is it getting reviews? Wait for the game to launch, then look at the reviews. But I have no sympathy for the studio here, it was their decision to put the game into early access. As for the players, well jumping the gun seems to be what players do all the time, I would take no notice of their "reviews".

Simple solution is dont play on completely full official servers. Ive been playing on smaller unofficial servers and have had no issues so far.

As per Steam's early access terms, people are buying an incomplete game that may or may not get patches and change in the future. It's meant to be bought only if you want to play it in its current state, and reviewed in its current state, whatever that state may be.

It's sometimes really harsh to developers who get negative reviews for problems that might get fixed later on. But it's also equally harsh to customers because the devs can stop development at any time without any refunds.

I think it's ultimately really fair system.

Buying a game that "may or may not get patches and change in the future" borders on a scam, so I just have to ask players to wise up. Steam should never have brought this in and it makes me wonder how many times this has to go pear shaped before the gaming community wises up.

Rather than give the game a bad review ask yourself why is an early access game getting a bad review, just steer clear.

I can see why from a developers point of view this gives helpful funding, but they did not need it before so no excuse there unless they are an indie company.

It is a fair system in as much that if you are making a purchase you should be able to review but I find the whole setup is very questionable.

If you sell it, it's worthy of being reviewed.

Now, once it's officially released I can see Steam wiping the review slate to start fresh, but for now it's fair to review it under the early access label.

but on the other hand, if a game is going to charge us $45, then I think we should know there may be issues.....Would you rather people say "best game ever" when its not and you get burned for the cost?

That would be a good way of clearing reviews which after all when the game launched could be so out of date as to be irrelevant. But the problem comes from studios wanting their cash cake before the goods are ready for the customer.

Getting sick of this new fad to use the term "review bombing" for everything. If you are getting a lot of bad reviews for actual gameplay issues, that's not review bombing, that's the review process working. Review bombing is when a bunch of people tank a review score of a product because of something completely unrelated to what that product does, like political issues about the company, etc.

I am happy they used that term though as it got your third post since 2014 out of you. ;)
