World of Warcraft is telling a big story. so big, that the team announced The Worldsoul Saga, which will tell a story over three expansions. The first, The War Within, got a new cinematic and details, and will be out in 2024.

It's hilarious that they think they can turn WoW around like that. How original! /sigh
All they needed to complete the picture was a surprise appearance of Joshi P himself announcing he is switching job to Blizzard ROFL!
I mean.... I got excited for exactly one minute with the trailer till they showed the actual new zones and gameplay..... that pretty much killed all excitement instantly.
When he said they wanted to launch WoW into the next 20 years and do something different.... for a moment I think everyone thought Chris Metzen was going to announce WoW2 lol.
Instead they will launch a single expansion, split it in 3 mini expansions spread over 3 years. That is basically what he means about the new direction and deliver content faster.
Just to cut through the marketing bullcrap and say it for what it is. They will now launch a much smaller expansion every year, but still charge the same for it.
That's Chris Metzen making his bonus targets at Blizzard right there folks. New direction: Announce a 3 part Saga, saying its 3 expansions (while its actually just one split in 3) and the new direction of delivering content faster, will be a new expansion every year, which obviously will be a third in size, but charge you the exact same for it nonetheless. So now they can milk you 60 bucks for a new mini expansion every year, instead of every 2 years.
Dude, you either don't play WoW or you're just hating on the game. I get it, I complain about games too. I have my own problems with WoW, a lot of issues with the game, actually. However, Dragonflight released not even a full year ago and the amount of content that has been released in that amount of time is impressive. It's been a solid cadence of content, probably one of the better schedules they've put out in a long time. So if this is what's expected for players every year between each of those expansions, people are going to be getting their money's worth.
Two additional raid tiers released, a mega dungeon, multiple world events, tons of QoL changes, continued storyline, multiple new zones, etc. You may not personally like or enjoy the game, but there's a ton of content there for people. Not to mention they've started doing their little traders tender thing, so that's something else for people to work towards if they want. Even if they're harmless throw away cosmetics that are ugly or things people don't want, whatever. It's stuff people can get if they want.
I'm definitely on the side that feels they needed to put Metzen onto WOW2, which would necessitate a full reboot. Hell I would have taken Metzen being in charge of Classic+ that took the story into different directions as the retail story is just borked beyond repair at this point and it started with Cata.
When they announced the saga at first I thought they were talking about books or something. Not mini expansions.
This not about hating Blizzard, as I have been coming back for each and every expansion in WoW.
There is simply no way in hell they will be able to deliver similar size expansions every year!
Unless they have been secretly going on a hiring spree and doubled the WoW team in size?
As far as I know, the opposite has happened over the years with the consistent decline of WoW retail player numbers. Hence, why expacs have become smaller in scope each time and most of the endgame content being added much later via content updates.
The last couple expansions have become really formulaic and streamlined, with boring uninspiring questlines. Each expansion was pretty much the exact same as the previous one, just in a different setting. Some new zones, a endgame zone added later. When completing story, unlock daily/weekly quest grind in each zone, etc, etc.
Shadowlands was an absolutely horrible expansion and Dragonflight wasn't all that much better in my opinion.
And since Chris Metzen only fairly recently came back to Blizzard, you can bet they had to pretty much restart development of the expansion this year, with change of direction to this new Saga. As you can bet this would not have happened, without his involvement. Seeing the crazy out of control path they were on with latest expansions, before his return.
I am sure the employees at Blizzard are thrilled by all this, as they will be put through the wringer, with ton of overtime and heavy crunch next year Summer, if they want to be able to launch in September. I can already smell the inevitable delay.
It also didn't take long to turn the mood at Blizzcon sour, with them pulling a Diablo4 on this new WoW Expac, announcing a 90 bucks edition to play the upcoming expansion 3 days early.
..yeah let's just continue with cataclysm'
Oh and now you have to pay for 3 of your patches now! I blame the people who purchased Diablo 4 for $90. If you keep eating crap from game companies, they'll keep serving you crap.
He literally said it in the presentation. That they going to deliver content faster. They are not going to announce a SAGA of so called 3 expansions and then stay on the same course of once every 2 years.
This is all about money and increasing revenue with an ever shrinking playerbase and the only option left to them is either go full on Predatory with the cash shop (which won't go over well with the WoW players they have left) or increase the frequency of expansion releases to rake in more money.
The way Chris presented it yesterday, it will be the latter. So they going to try release a new expansion every year from now on. And yeah.... they do use at least some predatory tactics with their Epic bundle of 90 bucks, so you can play the expansion 3 days early by paying 40 bucks more. Which already backfired!
Still, literally , he didn't say "anual expansions" . Like, literally, he didn't.
And I am 99% sure that there will not be anual expansions ( as we know them ).
Faster content doesn't mean anual expansions.
So yes, as someone else said here, you are just hating. I also .. hate Retail ( as is now ) but I am not going with conspiracy theories and such.
