My favorite is how they threw in the incomplete Paladin class to give the illusion of progress.

    "Paladin (Now playable!)
**We are making some code tweaks to Reckoning Points. Currently you will not build or spend them. Abilities that are intended to use Reckoning Points will currently cost 1000 Wrath."

It's all just standard Paladin abilities, which is fine, but what took so long if it's the typical Paladin stuff? And it's not even functioning properly on top of that!

At this pace, they might make it to alpha in 4-5 years.

I will say, RE: Paladin - they did ask the community during the Q&A if they wanted an incomplete version to start with or if they wanted to wait for the full class, the community in the chat at the time voted for the incomplete build so they would have something new to test. So it's not because they were trying to show the "illusion of progress," it was simply what the community (at least the die hards listening in on the Q&A on Discord) voted on.

Kind of.  But you and I both know that when they "asked" that question to that particular audience it was in essence rhetorical.

Sure, that's definitely one take that crossed my mind. But I gotta also report as it happened. Whether or not it would have launched like this without that prompt is speculation at this point. But definitely worth the speculation.

Followed this game since the very beginning. What we’re witnessing here looks like manic rambling from a team almost out of money.
Their only hope now is to have people look at this extraction thingy as an opportunity to finally play Pantheon and also pay extra for it.

Can we have some information on what "extraction style" gameplay is. A poster previously said this was like a battle royal. is that right?

They posted this on their YouTube channel. It's essentially the tutorial for 247.

If you have to report it as it happened, why not also include that the class will be half-baked? Since the team isn't telling people that, the least you could do is have the journalistic integrity to point it out.

    "What are extraction style games?

Simply put, an extraction shooter has a unique gameplay loop, when you die you lose all of your gear and have to perform a "Regain Run" often referred to as a "Zero to Hero Run". This creates Gear Fear and a desire to stay alive for as many runs as possible before your inevitable death."

Escape from Tarkov is often held up as the classic example of the genre.

What makes Pantheon "different" is it's not a shooter as most games in the genre are.

So 247 could be a miserable failure as it won't appeal to the genre's usual audience or perhaps a huge breakout title that extraction games have never reached previous.

So maybe it's another Fortnite in the making....

Thinking about this…didn’t Ashes of Creation do something similar to test combat and get feedback?  (Ashes of Creation Apocalypse). It’s was basically a battle royal type game.

Apocalypse took it a step further by having a functioning cash shop in it.

    247 doesn't have such...yet.

Was a blessing they did do what they did. They found major problems with Ashes that had them lose a year of development to fix it. Ashes made a new game to try and make money and I 100% think that's a miss use of pledge money. You want to do that with your own money, sure.

I did find out Pantheon is doing it a little different. When you warp into the game to do you 2hr quest. It's actually porting you into the actual Pantheon game they have been making. Your just testing Pantheon. You can just ignore the 2hr quest and just go play the game. No real money was wasted here. They have even said the 2hr quest may stay in for release to help people have meaningful short game sessions.

This could have been presented so much better. This has been classic VR. Management just having no clue how to run their business.

So basically there is no reason to have the tacked on extraction mode and you just want to play Pantheon...

If it's a game mode or a separate game with assets they already made it's still something nobody asked for.

No matter how well they present something nobody asked for or wanted it's still going to be something nobody asked for or wanted regardless of how much time or money they wasted on it.

For those that are wondering, you can choose if you want to join a pvp or a pve session. You go into an instance and it will give you a quest, that you have to complete in 2 hour.

    You mean two hours, yes?

At least that's what Nathan Napalm reported in his video today

Sorry, I've been really pissed at VR lately, so I didn't pay attention to the update the other day. Yes, VR increased the duration of the sessions from 1 hour -> 2 hours.

What I am still trying to get my head round is how is this easier for a dev team to make than one where you just keep your stuff? Or is that just baloney?
