ArcheAge 2 is still on the way, with reveals and closed beta later in 2024. Kakao Games has an eye on Western audiences and a shift in focus from large-scale faction PvP to something more group and PvE-oriented.

MMOs dropping a focus on PvP is a reflection of the majority playerbase being uninterested PvE players, though. As a general statement, I think in todays gaming market the majority who are interested in large scale pvp conflicts are playing the many Fortnites rather than the Archeages.
Your point kind of isn't far off. People who like to pvp float towards pvp related games/modes not pvp related worlds, which is what a pvp mmorpg is. Its not to say that people dont like to pvp, its just they dont want to ALWAYS pvp and if some people do want to ALWAYS pvp then there's just better options for it without the grind, like you said. Open world pvp in a f2p just doesn't feel good either unless you're a wallet warrior (or at least it wasn't fun when I played AA a few years ago). In AA, if you and a couple of others swiped hard enough, you could take over main enemy cities until wallet warriors on the other side came out. Maybe that's been nerfed a lil bit (even though darkrunners are still meta after all these years supposedly), but f2p and pvp ow dont really mix well for long.

as someone who loves faction wars in mmos, i disagree. PVP in MMO's is never done nearly as well as PVP focused games. Most people have a ton of options to get their PVP fix from other genres regardless of whether its faction war pvp or not, and the majority of MMORPG players are PVE focused and prefer curated PVE content and that tends to be what people go to MMO's for in addition to the social component, which I think is where the genre needs to shore up it's offerings for the health of the genre.
As some have mentioned, every player base is different, no game really and truly can cater to everyone, they have to pick one playerbase and stick with it. Archeage was one of the few catered to open PvP players, there are a ton of pure PvE games. What we don't see many of are games that separate the two but still dedicate enough time to both to make them equally large, good and fun, I can only think of Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online, Guild Wars 2.
Whether this move is good or bad, it is the current state of the majority of the players, they prefer to PvE more than PvP or simply want to PvP when they feel like it, not when they're forced into it, and it has to be respected. All we can do is wish the game the best because at the end of the day, outside of the publisher plans for P2W or not, it's the developers that are literally putting their careers, livelihood and reputation out there.
Those of us that have been in this genre since the late 90’s don’t seem to interest blizzard anymore, even though we are the people who would pay a subscription fee of 25 dollars a month if the game is good enough.
It’s just we are not the people that want things handed to us. Most of us liked the the straight forward approach to gear, RNG is absolutely fine with us and we pretty much think the best gear should come from the hardest raids. The progression went: world, dungeon, heroic, 1 level of mythic, 10 man raids and then 20 man. (Although I feel that 10 man runs are more fun with less bloat and everyone needs to be a pretty decent player)
Blizzard wanted shooter fans so that they could have these big tournaments and such. Also there cross worlds dungeons have really made the community quite toxic. Back in the day if you were a jerk it wasn’t Long before the entire server knew. So the community ended up punishing Toxic people by simply not playing with them.
