Just sell what you have to another company like AGS and move on. Free yourselves from this hell that you're trying to monetize. And here I was thinking the entire time that Pantheon had a better chance at releasing vs Ashes.....sad to see tbh.

A real shocker that no one was playing when everyone said it was a bad idea. The best part of all this mess is the verbal NDA is finally dropping.

"creative director Chris "Joppa" Perkins starting out of the gate stressing that the studio was in fact not out of money"

He's lying, or at least left out the part that they will be soon enough.

For the last several years every newsletter published has closed saying that VR was literally "keeping the lights on" from the generous support of their backers.

With the recent displeasure many fans have shown over the very late change in Graphics direction, this whole 247 misdirection campaign, how much you want to bet backer funding had decreased or even totally come to a halt?

Can anything Joppa says be taken at face value, especially regarding their secretive stance on funding as many (most) crowd funded games have shared how much they have raised from backers, but not VR. (The fact that they are not obligated to is totally irrelevant)

    I think not.

Oh my gosh yippee! I am so generally excited they decided to do the right thing and cancel 247 and keep up with Disney Dreamlight Valley 2.

The bad thing is with the graphics overhaul this will push the game even further back into pre-alpha! So that means like new development.

I think the devs should introduce silly mounts ASAP when they get the pre-alpha going and when alpha is going by the year 2028 they can sell the mounts for $100/ea!

I want mounts with sparkle trails and rainbows. Mounts that have hearts floating around them. I would like some flying ponies as well. Maybe they can partner with My Little Pony.

Last but not least, NO ONE should get access to pre-alpha or alpha unless you have pledged over $3,000.00.

The past pledges that have already spent money to get into pre-alpha and alpha should not count since the game is basically is brand new all over again. VR needs your help immediately!

If you can’t afford more pledges, they don’t need peasants in the game and that means you truly don’t support their passion.

I think changing the look of the game was a massive turn off for not only myself but for many others. For starters, the spell casting graphics looked great and now they look horrible. The animations look like a step backwards, gameplay looks like a step backwards. I feel like the transition from where they were to what they have now is not shaping up to be good. I WAS excited for this game but now, not so much.

It's very sad regarding the state of this game...will Pantheon launch? I have zero doubts its will, why not? Sure it will take another 3-4 years making it 14 year development cycle however I strongly believe this game will launch. In terms of success for this game it's obvious there will be no success, I see a semi hype launch and this game being relevant for about 2 months...then i see a couple hundred players still active with halted updates.

I am shocked there is so much conversation about Pantheon like they are doing something unique or special...Pantheon is another Crowfall/Elyon/Embers Adrift/ Shroud of the Avatar....this is not even worth talking about.

Visionary Realms should disclose the arrangement with their special investor that gave them 2.4M dollars last year. No one should be believing a word from Joppa and at this point Joppa is just looking for an off ramp to say they released something.

Sorry to anyone giving this project a dime

The level of incompetence on display is staggering.

The extraction idea should have been laughed out of the room. Instead they actually did it and are now backtracking on it. Whoever thought this was a good idea shouldn't be in charge of making coffee.

Even if this game does launch at some point if people like that are still on the team you can bet that more ideas that should never see the light of day will be pushed out.

To think that 10 years into this we would be talking about changing the entire art style and an extraction mode...

    Talk about clueless.

They have nothing to sell. If their concept was worth money, they would have investors. If they had a game to sell, it would need to be launched, or nearly so. They're so far away from that, all they have to sell are rainbow sharts and unicorn candy.

The problem is nobody wants a janky Unity-based mmo. The real tragedy is they could have developed their own engine and be further along than they are now. Most of their setbacks have been not being able to get Unity to work with their assets. That's the main reason for graphical design change.

So where do the $9999 lifetime subscription backers stand? (1)

1: I briefly looked into this game but when I saw that a lifetime subscription was $9999 all kinds of 'scam alert' sirens went off in my head and I didn't look back.

I dont agree with this.  Pleny of good ideas dont get investment.  Investers are human also and are just doing their best to guess what will make them money.  Probably better than many, but not infallible.

More likely they dont believe this team could pull it off.

In regards to the game, clearly they do actually have a game.  Just one in such a bad state it probably wont be successful to retail customers.  This is why this game has been in pre-alpha with an NDA for 10 years.  Praying off people with hopes and dreams.  This is the main reason they havent let the huge amount of Alpha players in yet, because once that happens reality will set in.

Alpha is about to happen with no NDA, so it will all be out there soon, or so they say.

Well, do you have any examples that would prove the point? Just saying, nuh-uh doesn't really make for a solid counter argument.

Let's get more specific, what good idea do they have that investors have skipped over that it's still has value and is worth selling. Unless someone has a patent or copyright, ideas aren't worth shit. I suppose there is the rare one-off case someone could pull out of their backside, but that common or applicable here.

Even released MMOs are hard to sell, expensive to restore or maintain, and end up eventually dying because people just don't like it and investors are tired of pouring money down the hole (see Rift as an example).

To paraphrase a comment I read by a game developer in r/gamedev yesterday, "Your brilliant game probably isn't a hidden gem like you think. It probably just sucks like the reviews and feedback are telling you." This was in a discussion about "hidden gem" games and would better marketing have helped them.

If lots of different people and groups pass over their game after looking at it, then their game is the problem. If they can only get money by duping users with outlandish promises, then that really does reinforce the issue.

So, what do these people have to sell that's worth something? I'm open to hearing reasonable arguments.

I thought it was rather obvious that not all good ideas get investors and that not all investors make good investment decisions.  Do you seriously need me to list out examples in history of successful ideas that investors passed on?
