"And yet, just when you start to get weighed down by the town's despair, you remember that somewhere, somehow
Fort Knox stands on the shoulders of Skyrim. That in itself is reason
enough to visit – and if you're pining for something Bethesda-shaped in
the sci-fi space, but for whatever reason can't visit Starfield, you
could do a lot worse than Fort Knox."
Suggesting we appreciate the mod for no other reason than because it's built on Skyrim and that the game we love of old is buried underneath, is rather sad.
We could also do a lot better than Fort Knox. Aside from the horrible title, it is just a map with interactive NPCs. Not to take away from the accomplishment of reskinning the world and scripting actors, because all that stuff is hard and takes work. But overselling this as a Starfield alternative is an insult to the mod and the scope of what it is and can deliver. It is also an ignorant slight to some really good interactive narrative walking simulators, like "The Invincible". It's $30 on Xbox or Steam. The Xbox version lists the game playable on PC and Series S|X for a single purchase price.
If you want a full conversion alternative sci-fi experience, then wait a few months until mod kit and creation club are fully released. The shooting will actually be good, unlike Skyrim.
What does dragons and space have in common? This merger is perplexing. No sense does it make. Are they trying to launch a time traveler game in 2024? Or launch a Jurassic Park expansion for eve online, which still doesn't make sense considering Ark Survival isn't exactly a Skyrim clone. Shareholders beware of this merger.

If I understand it correctly, it's a full conversion mod. That means it completely replaces the game play experience of Skyrim. At least that's how other full conversion mods I've seen or used work, like Undead Legacy for 7Days to Die, or @Sovrath 's full conversion mod that is a totally different story experience.
So, you never actually play Skyrim with the mod active, but it's still running on the same engine as Skyrim. I guess that's supposed tickle me or something, according to the article.

Whoever suggested this should be fired. What a waste of time and resources. This is something the community can create for free and distribute, like a shard. This is not something you would expect a developer to support.

Skyrim (and Fallout 4 and Starfield will next year) supports modding in general, not this mod in particular.
There isn't anything wrong with this mod in itself, and it looks neat, but trying to oversell it as an alternative to a full AAA RPG release does a disservice to the mod and other gamers.

I think it is a community project or at least one person. It’s a mod.
I would say my mod is an exceptionally large dungeon crawler with story elements.
It does offer a different gameplay experience more akin to old school adventure games.
That’s the beauty of mods, they allow creators to offer different experiences to players to hopefully augment these games and keep the them fresh and relevant.
