EverQuest players are up in arms thanks to a new duplication exploit that has hit the MMO, and while a hotfix was rolled out, many players are upset at both a lack of communication from Darkpaw Games, as well as saying the hotfix doesn't do enough to fix the problems.

Only measure they have is probably a Rollback to before the exploit. Wouldn’t be a massive issue if RL money trading wasn’t a thing - but it is - Krono has ruined that game ages ago.

MUCH EASIER for a bug to occur with a code base that is 28 years old (yes the back end for that game goes back to 1996).

Your statement would have more merit if it was the same engine being used for the next EQ title.

Everquest has had at least 8 major dupe exploits since 1999 so i dunno why people are shocked, difference is back then they didn't hesitate to roll the servers back, while now twiddle their thumbs because they are scared of losing whales since they are the ones keeping the game alive.

On top of what the other poster said....

The team that engineered the old EQ programming, the current team running it (mostly), and the team that would create the new EQ project are all entirely different groups of people lol.

I don't think it's about programming: All games can have dupes, whether it's new or old.

Their problem was that they took too long time to react which allowed the problem to blow up. Then even after reacting they didn't bother to do rollback, disable trading, or anything like that. They just allowed exploiting to continue until they had hotfix, and now are allowing the exploited stuff to spread freely and break the in-game economy.

The non-response to this is probably the worst I've seen in all my years of on & off-again playing EQ.
The current head of Darkpaw makes 2 public statements a year and is otherwise completely missing. This would have never happened under Holly.

JChan is the head of Darkpaw, and if EQ3 is assigned to them would be under the same terrible leadership.

This Update is a lie. They have not addressed the issue to the community on discord and have only taken the time to post pictures of their lunch. Their lack of community communication is honestly ming boggling. Very sad days and state of the game.

That is because they don't really have any "real" developers that know this old EQ1 game engine.

This game has been in maintenance mode for years and all they have are content creators that know their way around in the content creation tools, so they can release new mini expansions and launch new Progression servers to fleeze the remaining player base for cash.

They probably just accidently triggered this exploit by a botched content patch and now they are in full panic mode and don't know what to do.

Clearly they don't even have any competence on the backend either (which should really worry people) or they would have just rolled everything back the moment it was discovered. Which any competent studio would have done with an exploit of this magnitude.

The fact they are literally begging people to stop posting about this exploit on the internet should tell you everything you need to know!

This whole company is just one big sh!tshow.

    ---------

And....the idea they are working on a new EverQuest game is either complete vaporware to keep investors happy or it will be a sh!tshow of a game they release in Early Access, full of P2W and gamble boxes.
As how many times have we been hearing these EQ3 rumors and for how many years now?

It's agonizing seeing EQ, especially old EQ which is so unique, die like this. Really wish it would get the Runescape Classic treatment but the current owners just don't care in the least about EQ.

Sad to watch this slow decline of the very first MMORPG I played. I console myself that there is P99.
