To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.

We don't have to cast our minds back too far to when the crypto crash had players saying that was the end of block chains in gaming. It was just a deferral as a number of us said. No revenue method for gaming every truly dies, they brought back subscriptions in F2P games!
It remains to be seen if players will kick back against this, I hope so.

Most people don't know what blockchain is, how it works, or what it's for. Pretty sure no one can say with a straight face what this means for the game and why it's relevant as a selling point.
Imagine a developer marketing their game by advertising the use extensive hash and lookup tables to make their save files small and their game performant.

so like, you multisig into my butthole, and then I'll multisig into your butthole. and then we'll have an immutable public ledger that tells the world we're gay.
Are there any active NFT projects that actively made any money? I feel like NFT's crashed as a whole and just kinda went away for the most part. Same with like 99% of crypto currencies as well minus the big ones like Eth or btc.
Once the market crashed on NFT's, the companies making NFT related projects should have shifted focus to a normal product again. Looks like it will be Dust 514 all over again.

Define "make money"
Because as of right now few if any Blockchain MMORPGs have released. That means any investment from "investors" or "partnerships" is pretty profitable since they aren't doing much to earn that.
Fair to say CCP might be on the more viable end of an actual game there, but they also received funding from BITKRAFT and other web3 investment companies to the tune of at least 40 million if not more already, so ... there's still plenty of money being thrown around to make blockchain viable whatever form that blockchain takes is another thing entirely.
It weird to me to advertise a game and have the database technology be the top feature.
Pick your favorite games over the past few years. Know anything about data storage on the back end for those titles?
Why not?
Because it doesn't matter.
To be fair, EVE is a rare exception here. When they switched from hard drives to SSDs, it made a huge and obvious improvement to gameplay. It was so dramatic that at least one enterprise SSD vendor started using it as a case study of "this is why you should buy SSDs".

I don't mean just MMORPG's I mean NFT's in general. Like any NFT project I can think of that had hype surrounding it, dropped 90+% in value since launch or just disappeared completely. But since I don't really follow NFT's, I can't say it's true for all NFT's. There have been a couple of blockchain old MMO revivals but they were mostly cash grab crap that people just re opened on web3 since the license was so cheap. I could see something like crypto being tied to items to add value when you sell them, but an actual NFT attached doesn't really make much sense to me.

It's difficult to say. Have there been NFT's that have appreciated in value? Perhaps some. But NFTs in games aren't primarily for the player, but often utilized as an ongoing monetization model with the guise of being for the player.
There have been some web3 games that started out as traditional MMOs, and it's easier to fool people in playing to "earn" for those games despite the games themselves actually being good. Are there winners and losers when it comes to money in those instances? Sure.
Winners being those that sell their NFT characters or whatever, for what they believe is a "good price". Losers being those that get into the game hoping that they'll make money and don't, or the money they make isn't equal to the time they spent playing a terrible game for less than they had hoped.
But that's also why you have games like Ni No Kuni Cross Worlds by netmarble that has blockchain, mostly in the form of tokenized assets needed to upgrade your character or weapons or whatever. You can grind those tokens out and earn money selling them to other players on the blockchain market.
But they also require a trade currency, which means you can't make money without spending money. It only ends up being a good deal while the market is high. Right now it's pretty low. Doesn't mean players aren't making money, it's not the lowest it has ever been, but just a quick look at their prices over the past year shows that trades have also declined, along with the price.
that might have skewed off topic
Anyways, the point is NFTs are put in place with the promise that players make money. But NFTs in just about every place you see them are built with a smartcontract where the developers are keeping a cool 30% or so of whatever you sell it for.
So you can see why many devs are probably excited for this model. Especially games that are focused around having players craft their own NFTs with in game tools. They craft them, they market them, they sell them, but the devs get 30%. That's why NFTs may not make sense to players as much but it certainly makes sense to developers. No matter how many times you sell that same item that you created, the devs will always take their cut.
It's not the worst thing in the world. Players can and do get money back for their time in game, but too many devs use it as a "feature" and it's not. It set a bad precedent for the tech.
I have to believe the term blockchain turns more away than it lures in.......
Probably not as much as terms such as NFT or Crypto currency do.
You'll note such games rarely mention them anymore but lead with block chain because there are legitimate good purposes for distributed ledgers.
Thing is, as far as I can tell none of these Web 3 game devs are using it for good use, more just a smokescreen for their true intent, focusing on selling players on the concept of ownership / making money, game play be damned.

Wait, when has doubling down on being more hardcore ever been a successful strategy in video gaming?
