The entire process has been a mess. At this rate they should just shut the project down and save the little respect they have left.

That's what was said about NMS, and look where it is now. Maybe this could be one of those success stories.

The game just looks absolutely awful. Maybe 15 years ago it would have been somewhat enticing.. not anymore tho.

Not wholly unexpected, but all part of the testing process, hopefully they learned enough to fix it.

It promised to bring back old school MMORPG designs, some of which have been missing from modern titles for a very long time.

    Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

The idea of old school mmorpg design is what is wrong with mmorpg design.
Nostalgia is not a powerful drug in mmorpgs.
If it was, this game would have been funded.
All these 'old school' idea design mmorpgs projects cant get off the ground because the reality is, there is not enough interest in the market to support them.
It is tired and stale game design and there is not enough players willing to support them to matter.

Anyone have a pool which game shuts down first? Pantheon or Camelot Unchained?

What a fall from grace from both dev teams.

Pantheon most likely, Mark seems to always find a way to get more investors to fund him.

I never count a studio out when it is down, lets see if they can get up again. The fact the forecast is not good only means don't put your money in, I still have my fingers crossed.

Don't give this company money. Don't trust this company. Don't make the mistake I and many others made. They took pledge money up until the day of when they knew there was issues at least 3 weeks out from this test. They won't return it. Don't ever trust Visionary Realms.

He just launched some kind of Season pack for his Ragnarock game.  With paid benefits.  Strange for sure.  Wonder if somehow it's built a following.

Been saying this since the very beginning but you people couldn't just see through those rose-tinted glasses.

The concept of cloning EverQuest was a bad idea from the very start, and once they started moving the goal posts, the writing was truly on the wall.

How many years has it been?  Remember when they said they were shooting to release in 2017 or 2018? LMAO.

    This is utter hilarity.

I have zero empathy for the people who wasted their money on this.

People need to stop treating game developers like family members, and stop getting emotionally attached to pipe dreams and pixels.

Yeah I was being sarcastic and agreed, I think this game would flop even if it fully launched and they would cancel it anyways. They never had a chance at success because a game like this is 15 years too late.

If someone gave money to this or any other project AND they complain then sure, they should have known what they were getting themselves into.

Otherwise, it's fine to give money to such projects provided you are smart about it. Pretty much every kickstarter I've backed has come to fruition.

Now, funny enough, the two that haven't come to fruition are Pantheon and Camelot Unchained. But it's fine, I knew what I was getting into and it's no big deal.

Darkest Dungeon is an amazing game and we wouldn't have had it if not for crowd funding. Or Bard's Tale IV or System Shock remake or Agony. Monomyth is coming along quite nicely. But, the lesson seems to be that mmorpg's, at least from the start, are not good candidates for crowd funding.

Yea, Terazon is only speaking for himself. Old School game design is great. I really miss it.

But, I've been getting my fix with games like Arx Fatalis or even Graven for a sort of "Hexen" type game.

Not to say new games aren't great but they are very much into hand holding.

I'll say it, the new game's might be good for some, but definitely not great in any real measure outside of casual play.

I still play old games, but I'm not paying $70 today for a rubber stamp Hexen clone. At the very minimum, I expect a Hexen clone to be on the level of Immortals of Aveum; or a truly effort filled remaster like the Turok series, which are filled with features and improvements the studio originally wanted to do but couldn't due to technology limitations of the time.

All these "old school" indie mmrpgs are trying to do that and failing spectacularly. They don't improve on the game play experience. They don't improve on the graphical presentation. They don't improve on any aspect of the game. They feel like stale rehashed clones of their better predecessors. No one wants to play them, outside of a tiny unsustainable niche.

Arx Fatalis can be played with GamePass, or purchased for $4. Expectations are a lot higher when asked to pay for AAA box fees with a cash shop or recurring subscription.

Well, that's certainly a "way" one can evaluate a game but I'm not in agreement. For me a game just has to do what it's doing well.

Arx Fatalis doesn't go rotten as the years go by. Yes, it was made "in a time" and is restricted to what it was able to do graphically but for me that's just part of the style.

The game play for a game like Arx Fatalis is the same now as it was when it was released and it's amazing. Worth full price or 4 dollars.

Also, Graven isn't 70 dollars it's 30 so have at it if you are amenable.
