the game is too niche and not mobile friendly with the lack of auto play.

so it will basicly have a good and healthy playerbase but i doubt it will be on the top charts.

Will it? Yes. We live in Hell.

Should it? No. The other gacha trash shouldn't have become hits either.

Idk. This type of game was niche enough when Elsword/Rusted Hearts/Etc came out, several other copycats have died (Critika Online to name just one) out, and Mihoyo already has a pretty steady fanbase that is exclusively Genshin or exclusively Honkai...

Unsure how well a third IP will fare there, too.

I normally report adbots but since this column is basically a waste of space not going to bother.

My Daughter loves Hyroverse games. So she will try and get me to play this one. These games are super popular with Gen Z's.

Sigh. Mihoyo'll get a strike again, even though they don't deserve it. Genshin has become a mess with no visual identity, no cohesive structure between areas. Suddenly now we have underwater areas with the usual underwater pipes and manufacturing plant type of thing, including a psuedo-steampunk aesthetic. Characters are barely unique at this point. Everyone has an archetype based on the type of E and type of Q skill they have. "Normal Attack" boosts, elemental reactions, so on.

Star Rail? Oh, it's like Trails... yeah, in the sense you can use your "Ultimate" to interrupt, and to either heal or deal damage. It's a phone game with a DPS ceiling that raises ever so slightly. It's music isn't good, either. If the gameplay is built on interrupts to heal, that means the developer can add in whatever gimmick they want to make heal-interrupting mandatory.

Story isn't even good. Maybe space Mondstadt, but space China? Boring, and not even consistent.

They're popular "games" because people don't need to think much, pretty graphics. The fandom is super, SUPER defensive to the point where if you criticize the game, they'll brigade you. You can't even call out the company for being cheap; they'll give out specific things for one game, but the one that made them relevant (Genshin) will actively step on players and people will want to be stepped on more.

It's toxic gacha culture where you can't even say "I wish skin prices were lower". (Even though gachas themselves are toxic to the idea of gaming)

The appeal? Because it's free. Even though people spend more in this crap than they do on anything else.

Nothing more expensive than a "free game". But since gamers keep throwing the money at them. Nothing will ever change for the better. Genshin and Star Rail are not good games, never have been, and never will be, but still rake in cash. I don't even get mad at developers anymore. If I had a captive audience as stupid at modern gamers, I'd fleece them for everything they are worth as well.
