seems some here have negativity towards sub services, even to the point of insulting players who use them, personally dont care what you call me, the XBox PC game pass has enabled me to play several games I never would have even considered looking at if I had to buy them right out, leading to these studios other games to be on my radar, in turn I have bought games from these studios, so knock the services and insult those who use them all you want but nobody cares, plus go to BG 3 website right now, I have to buy the game from steam cant get a physical copy unless I buy(pre order) the delux edition...
I think you are referring to me but I am not sure. Players have been called butterflies, locusts etc for long, long before streaming was a mote in someone's eye. I do think if you flitter from one game to the next you are naturally going to be less concerned the game might not be on the roster next year. Is that an insult? I don't think so, it just seems logical to me.
If it works for you well and good, but like all these changes from F2P to live services the fact it works for some or in fact most players does not mean in the long run it is what gaming needs.
Yeah, some online games have removed previously available content which really sucks IMO, but fortunately I haven't played many of them.
(Does WOW Catacombs count?)
It really depends on how long term anyone could be expected to play, if they are doing that to MMOs or to a lesser extent multiplayer then it is a real issue for me. If it is a solo player game that you knock out in a month who cares? The only caveat I would put on that is if the solo game keeps putting out good dlc and you miss out because the game has gone.

Empty insults are all those people have. Maybe I'm too jaded and spend way too much time on reddit, but those kind of virtue signalling circle-jerkers are irrelevant. Fuck em. My gaming hobby isn't there to validate their insecurities.
GamePass is pretty sweet right now and I've played dozens of games I never would have experienced elsewise. I actually finish more games now than I ever have before.
The really dumb thing those people miss is that people on subscription services still buy games. GP has enabled me to be a lot more selective about what I do buy. Even with the GP:U sub and my purchases, I still spend less per year now than before.
I get that Larian is feeling their oats with their first real success (which they deserve), but their loud mouth doesn't endear me to them or encourage me to spend money with them. I can pass on BG3 and never miss a beat.
Here's the thing: imagine that you discover a game on GP that is perfect for you. You give it a try and after a while fall in love with it, buy it and play it ad nauseam. Months and years later, you still return to it, to relive good memories or to start completely new playthroughs to fully explore your perfect game.
Now let's say that Microsoft decides to remove the game from GP for whatever reason - it could be a licensing dispute with the dev studio or just Microsoft publishing a similar game and not wanting competition. Or simply to drive whatever FOMO mechanic they want.
How certain are you that you will retain access to your 'purchased' game? I am genuinely curious: have you read the terms of service and are you certain that you actually would continue to have access to the game that you have bought and want to continue playing?
With services like Steam that is not the case. I have never used GP and don't know what their ToS are like. But I would imagine they're similar to Steam's - they claim to be 'subscriber agreements' (as opposed to sales) and thus if Steam decides - for whatever reason - you will lose access to your supposedly purchased game(s).
That is a fundamental problem, of course. Literally: it is about your fundamental rights, such as your property rights. The question thus is very simple: do you really own what you think you own? Or is your supposed property actually somebody else's and your full enjoyment of it is just a matter of time, licensing updates or someone's caprice?
There is a big difference between services like Steam or GP on one side, and GoG and similar stores on the other. I understand the widespread appeal of Steam, its features, huge libraries that players have built, but especially for games that you particularly enjoy, it doesn't hurt to invest into a solution that will last beyond unforeseen changes such as the ones mentioned above. From what I understand about the GP, it is the exact opposite. Your purchase deal is always subject to change regardless of your intentions or wishes - and you'd better pray the big guy at Redmond does not decide to alter the deal further...
GamePass is a streaming service such as Hulu or Netflix, or closer to home, an MMORPG. Games played through it aren't purchased. They are available while they're on the service at no additional charge.
Most games don't stay on GamePass forever. They stay as long as the publisher or studio made the agreement for. Some games seem to have a permanent home, like No Man's Sky, while others are there for a very short time (Persona 5, for example). When they leave GP, users can either uninstall or buy them.
Games on Xbox GamePass can be purchased, and some offer DLC for a purchase that aren't included in the base offering. I purchased No Man's Sky again on Xbox because I love that game and want to support further that studio. If a game license is purchased, then that title is available whether it's on GamePass or not.
Your points are valid and there is a risk, but that's true with anything. I find a lot of value to the service and it has saved me from making game purchases that weren't a good fit for me.
Everyone has their own preferences and play styles. GamePass works for me, but maybe it isn't a good fit for you. Steam and GoG both come with benefits and banes. I do own quite a few very old games on GoG that are hard or impossible to find on another legit service. The Might and Magic series with all the Xeen titles are an example.
There used to be a game on demand service around 2007 called metaboli. It's dead now for some reason. I used it and I can't imagine how the company made money since personally I would have to spend so much ££ to play all those games if I wanted to buy them. Also Ubisoft is getting a lot of hate from cherry picking information. As far as I know they will still offer normal option to buy as usual or subscriptions but you know it's the internet so lets release part of information and start the shitstorm.

I think you fail to understand and differentiate the difference between console and pc players. This website was founded more by pc players than console. Console games have been a later addition, and the audiences clash to this day.

What, calling the obvious?
Well, they do have billions in cash reserves and their subscribers increased so it's not like they can't, at the moment, handle their debt.
