A new trailer for Greedfall 2: The Dying World premiered at this year's Nacon Connect livestream. The trailer gives us our first look at the game's story, where we see the player character fight to free herself from enslavement.

    Well... That told us absolutely nothing about the game. Maybe she's the nemesis of the story? Who knows?

    Did anyone even ask for this? I tried to play the first game and it was so clunky without any overly redeeming factors that I just uninstalled it after a few hours.

    No. Do you really believe Natives would be enemies? And not Bridge or Theleme? Or someone new.

    Sure, I would love if a warlike tribe was an antagonist of the story, but I doubt it.

    Regardless, I would love if Bridge or Theleme were more fleshed out. Oh and better gameplay. Everything else is great.

    I didn't mind some of the jank, but the characters and story fell flat to me. I feel like I was asked to care before I was given reasons to. Not to pick on Greedfall, because I feel the same about DA: Inquisition and a few others.

    Character introduction and connection has to be more than a controls and actions tutorial. I just finished Firewatch last night, and while I didn't like either main character much I could relate to and empathize with them. I could sympathize with the situation they were in and the tension of the mystery was interesting. Greedfall didn't establish that for me.
    Bring back the Naked Chicken Chalupa!

    It has been pointed out to me in a writing group I belong to that one doesn’t have to like the characters but one must understand them.

     I suppose Firewatch did it “right.”

    I don't know what to believe. I didn't play the first one, so all these images of people that mean something to you mean nothing to me. I didn't even know they were 'natives' until you said so just as a case in point, or does face paint == natives?

    Interesting observation. I agree and they did kind of do it right. I think my main criticism is that none of my exploration, dialog choices, or actions felt like they mattered about two thirds of the way through. Most of the dialog options left out other angles people might considers, in order to carefully craft the narrative they wanted to present. It came with a lot of preconceived notions that the reader can't escape. It made the overall experience feel shallow.

    I'm also playing through Observer, which is another interactive cinematic narrative, and even though it really isn't any freer, it doesn't feel as shallow and on rails as Firewatch does. Probably not a fair comparison because Observer is acted and voiced by Rutger Hauer and the cyberpunk visual aesthetic does a lot of work, but it's hard not to compare two experiences in the same genre (interactive story/visual novel).
    Bring back the Naked Chicken Chalupa!
