I gave them shit for quite awhile...and then I bought into the alpha. Morbid curiosity I guess who knows though I do love space games. What they have is actually far beyond what almost any other game has, or has even attempted. It doesn't quite all come together yet, but what they have is playable and solid. You can create a character, run around the ports/cities/stations, jump in your ship, take off, fly (with no zoning) straight up through the atmosphere into space and then fly to other planets and descend then land all done seamlessly. The graphics in space and the other planets are amazing. The controls are tight, though tighter in the ships than on foot/ground 3rd person shooter combat last I played. The ships are mind blowing. Just because you buy some huge freighter or military ship that has all these weapons and systems doesn't mean you can pilot them or do everything in them. You need a lot of people to crew the ship doing various jobs while in flight and combat. Me and my buddies are already planning our personal ships, and our "guild" ship that we all go out and crew together. Long story short, I look forward to it. Despite all the crap it gets, it shaping up to be unlike anything ever made and I have to respect that even if it takes 10-15 years.

3.23 is going to be awesome, I look forward to mastermode so much. As far as 1.0, since sq42 is about done it might come faster than we think. Im guessing a while though.

I'll cut them slack when they release SQ42. Until then it's just lip service.

613 millions, LOL .. and the game is not even CLOSE to release. And you come up to us telling us how "amazing" this "game" is ? The only "respect" this guys are taking from me is that they found a very good way to get rich .. thanks to guys like you.

Really shame on you and whoever support this scam.

I have been saying that for a long time now, while they surely changed the scope of what the game was suppose to be in the kickstarter and before they only are doing what the majority of the players and backers want.

It's the popular thing to do hate on the game and call it a scam and just a fancy tech demo but those people spouting that crap are talking out their arses and are just parroting what other people are saying online cause surely if they actually tried the game they would see what you did after giving a spin.

I think of it as the Derek S syndrome.

    About the article itself:

    "its single-player spinoff, Squadron 42"

This is not really accurate, SQ 42 was the original KS game and was never a spin off. My original backer package includes what is now considered both games as they were originally one game.  They just split it into two for "reasons".

Both the SQ42 and the PU were intended but the scope of the PU got so much bigger than it ever was suppose to be due to peeps wanting that so they split Star Citizen and SQ42 into two games.  The thing to remember though is that SQ42 was always suppose to be the single player introduction of the game, a nice long campaign that then dumps you into the PU.

Before this even went to KS on the SC website the PU itself was a fundraising goal and there PU was even suppose to have privately run servers were modding was suppose to be allowed.

For the money they've gotten, it should be good.  I don't think most of the crap is about the game itself, but the amount of time without release and cost of special ships.

Well any prospect of a SC 1.0 is surely years away, even if they feature lock the 1.0 scope soon can't see it managing a short phase to stabilize, optimize and polish it all.

The more interesting prospect before SC is the SP campaign SQ42, which all already hints that there's be large announcements related to the campaign later in the year.

In the meanwhile, SC getting updated with stuff in dev for up to years is a big finally that people been waiting for since forever, the stuff that'll shape this into an actual MMO.

I've been away I didn't know they rebooted the Stargate Worlds storyline lol

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

I have attempted to play this many times over the years. All it does is make me want to play Elite in VR. I only wish Elites multi-player was any good. For me SC has always been a buggy mess. I have loaded in and fallen through the game world countless times over the years. I get it, its alpha but this isn't a normal alpha....stuff like getting stuck on a ladder or unable to drink or falling through the map have all been issues for years....that's just a short list. I can't play it for more than a few hours every year or I hate myself nothing feels good in that game and it continues to run like crap.

Before any nah sayers say it's my system it's not.

The problem is "it doesn't quite all come together". That is a concern for me as we have seen a number of MMOs release with many good systems that don't ultimately make a cohesive whole. New World is the primary example of this in AAA land.

But the proof will be in the space pudding as they say, lets hope it all comes together for launch!

    No!

Just so you know, since you likely haven't followed SC's development since the beginning.... SC IS ONLY FOLLOWING THE PLAYER'S DESIRES! Back in I think 2012 or 2013 or something like that, shortly after the project began in full, Chris Roberts asked the community if they wanted a "Game" or a "Universe". Guess which one the community picked in their naivety?

They picked a universe. A fully fleshed out and as immersive as possible universe with as much realism as possible. I'll make this short for you. A game would have been done many years ago. A Universe would have taken at least as much time as we've spent on EA as we have now. And since nothing like a "Universe" as well defined as it is now has never been attempted before it's actually not surprising at all how much time and money it has taken. It's not a scam. You try spending money on a few hundred/thousand employees and office buildings and on research and development. Did you know the CR failed several times in the dev cycle of SC before figuring out how to get the game to the point it is now? And still they haven't given up. They haven't said: "Sorry folks a universe is too hard. Gotta reneg on your expectations and make a simplified game."

They are being as transparent as possible with their dev efforts to show they are not taking peoples money, time, and hopes for the future of this game for nothing in return. I know of many other indie games that have been abandoned by their devs and still they are in EA while they soak of money from the players. Full of bugs, and unfinshed or not implemented promises. Take Ark Survival Ascended for example. They came out with a reskin of their existing game full of bugs and all bug said they are quitting development on Ark 2. That's a scam. SC is not that.

SC has something playable, a consistent update schedule, transparent progress from the devs, and it is not forcing anyone to give them money for anything. Only the whales who want to support the devs pay for the development. I'm talking rich folk with 6 figure salaries or more who don't mind dropping hundreds or thousands of dollars every quarter of the year. I myself have only put in $60 dollars into the game when it was being kickstarted and I am not putting in another dime. At the time $60 was the price of a full AAA game. I see no reason to put in more money.

TLDR: A scam would mean CR has nothing to show for their efforts while making a "Universe" and not a "Game" which would have been done years ago. If you want to know of a game that is a scam just look to Ark Survival Ascended.

Years ago, this project seemed to excite the entire industry, as I recall. This was largely due to the mindset that at the time, it was unthinkable for a game developer to use predatory tactics to take advantage of a devoted fanbase, at least not to the extent that it has.

Even though Chris suggested this seemingly implausible miracle more than ten years ago, I still hope to live to see it happen.

And I'd bet that most of the game's decade long supporters have voted with their feet, getting far away from this ongoing boondoggle.

I suspect that Star Citizen release 1.0 will come shortly before CIG has to pay off the Calders and their other investors.  And it will be in whatever half baked state the games (including Squadron 42)  are in.
