Roberts Space Industries, the team behind the infamous always-in-progress MMORPG Star Citizen, believes it's closer than ever to its 1.0 "commercial release" product after some shakeups.

Glad you and your buddies are already planning ..... ( facepalm ).
For 613 mil , having..whatever you said above is pathetic.
613 millions, LOL .. and the game is not even CLOSE to release. And you come up to us telling us how "amazing" this "game" is ? The only "respect" this guys are taking from me is that they found a very good way to get rich .. thanks to guys like you.
Really shame on you and whoever support this scam.
"Do you think Star Citizen will finally see its primary 1.0 release anytime soon? "
No!
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I always wonder how much money these guys get paid to post thinly veiled propaganda like this. Hopefully it's as much as Raid: Shadow Legends shills get paid.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
The more interesting prospect before SC is the SP campaign SQ42, which all already hints that there's be large announcements related to the campaign later in the year.
In the meanwhile, SC getting updated with stuff in dev for up to years is a big finally that people been waiting for since forever, the stuff that'll shape this into an actual MMO.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
Before any nah sayers say it's my system it's not.
But the proof will be in the space pudding as they say, lets hope it all comes together for launch!

Just so you know, since you likely haven't followed SC's development since the beginning.... SC IS ONLY FOLLOWING THE PLAYER'S DESIRES! Back in I think 2012 or 2013 or something like that, shortly after the project began in full, Chris Roberts asked the community if they wanted a "Game" or a "Universe". Guess which one the community picked in their naivety?
They picked a universe. A fully fleshed out and as immersive as possible universe with as much realism as possible. I'll make this short for you. A game would have been done many years ago. A Universe would have taken at least as much time as we've spent on EA as we have now. And since nothing like a "Universe" as well defined as it is now has never been attempted before it's actually not surprising at all how much time and money it has taken. It's not a scam. You try spending money on a few hundred/thousand employees and office buildings and on research and development. Did you know the CR failed several times in the dev cycle of SC before figuring out how to get the game to the point it is now? And still they haven't given up. They haven't said: "Sorry folks a universe is too hard. Gotta reneg on your expectations and make a simplified game."
They are being as transparent as possible with their dev efforts to show they are not taking peoples money, time, and hopes for the future of this game for nothing in return. I know of many other indie games that have been abandoned by their devs and still they are in EA while they soak of money from the players. Full of bugs, and unfinshed or not implemented promises. Take Ark Survival Ascended for example. They came out with a reskin of their existing game full of bugs and all bug said they are quitting development on Ark 2. That's a scam. SC is not that.
SC has something playable, a consistent update schedule, transparent progress from the devs, and it is not forcing anyone to give them money for anything. Only the whales who want to support the devs pay for the development. I'm talking rich folk with 6 figure salaries or more who don't mind dropping hundreds or thousands of dollars every quarter of the year. I myself have only put in $60 dollars into the game when it was being kickstarted and I am not putting in another dime. At the time $60 was the price of a full AAA game. I see no reason to put in more money.
TLDR: A scam would mean CR has nothing to show for their efforts while making a "Universe" and not a "Game" which would have been done years ago. If you want to know of a game that is a scam just look to Ark Survival Ascended.

Even though Chris suggested this seemingly implausible miracle more than ten years ago, I still hope to live to see it happen.

Well, it's not out yet. Though in truth I never thought it was a scam. More a victim of development issues and feature creep and possibly bad management.
