My guess is any original Dragon's Dogma players won't care. There was limited fast travel in that game AND you could only make one character.
I believe a bit after the 1st game was released they included a ferry stone that was not used up and was permanent. I bet they do the same here.
Oh! But you can't remake your character and start over! There's a negative right there!
I reckon the one character limit has always been a flaw worthy of major critique and defending it because it was a thing in the first game is a non-argument.
I don't really think it's a flaw. That's a very "gamer" thing to say. Someone doesn't like something so "it's a flaw."
And you're right in that other people think it's a flaw. I've seen the complaints.
I don't think it's a flaw at all. It's a design decision. Especially because you can be every vocation in the game.
The issue as I see it is that you can't delete your game and start anew. Apparently they are going to add that.
Seems like an oversight of large proportions. Though for some reason "it's a design decision."
It's a flaw. An objective one. Lack of multiple save slots is always a flaw.
There is absolutely no such thing as a "design decision" that is meritorious in and of itself. If your artistic choice is a flaw, I'm calling it a flaw.
Want to have a different character with a different appearance, making different choices, at a different stage of the game? Sucks for you.
Want someone else in your household to be able to play their own character on your profile? Eat shit.
Flopping on steam. People are mad at the performance and the fact a game that cost $80+ only let's you make one char that you can't delete because it's saved on Capcom servers. That forcing to pay micro transactions to make another char or edit the char you already made. Seems like a fail of a move to me.
It cost $6 to fast travel. You can earn fast travel in the game but they made its very very costly to earn in game.
Thanks for actually explaining this as I couldn't get through all the ad hominem attacks in reviews and the forum to figure out wtf is actually wrong with the game. People think our forum fights are bad here?
I am curious about something. People on these forums and others are raving about this game. Many of the same people openly went after other games that had a $70 price point. This game does as well and so far not a word. Clearly with the reveal of microtransctions, optimization issues and anti-cheat software it has some of the same issues as those other games but all the sudden people are "ok" with $70. I don't get it. I truly don't.
By the way, mostly negative on Steam now and many reviewers are going back and re-reviewing it after the reveal of (what appears to me) to be a very aggressive micotransaction scheme. I am just confused why this game seems to be getting a pass and others don't.
The reveiwers I trust love this game. It's a gem but for a few problems that can be addressed if Capcom decides to. The fix letting only Steam users delete their char and start anew is shameful. No matter where you buy this game you should have this option. If they fix the performance problems and do something about the micro transactions. By lowering the cost of the game or removing them. I will be playing this at some point. Up to Capcom to make that a when for me.

I think you're making a huge generalization. "Some" people don't like $70 and "some" have no problem with it.
I'm one of the latter (though in a perfect world I'd like everything for free, thank you) as the 59.95 (or whatever) price point has been going on for a long time. Why shouldn't they raise prices to keep up with inflation?
Also, is the "same" person who "went after another game with a $70 price point" also the "same person" who has no problem with this game being $70? And if so, was there a reason given?
In any case, while I have my criticisms, The game so far is very good.
Point of note for new players - the first time starting up the game generates shaders. This can take a long time. Just let it run.
You can use a mouse and keyboard, or at least I have and so far it's fine.
If you screw up your character customization, as long as you didn't have steam uploading on, you can delete the game and re-download it and you can then remake the character.
If you have Steam back up saves that might not be possible though haven't tested it.

Your entire argument is based on "I wannnnnt."
They didn't design the game for you to have someone else play on your profile They wanted to create an experience where you create one character and explore the world and the vocations with that character.
Don't like it? Great, duly noted. But this is the game based on their design decision. You say it's objective? Great! Not a flaw.
edit: I'll add, just like not having a difficulty slider in a Souls Game is "not a flaw."

It is a flaw, but Souls fans can keep telling themselves that. Stockholm Syndrome be crazy.
And no, I don't respect an artistic decision based on not having basic features.

Again, not a flaw but agree to disagree.
Would you like to know an actual flaw?
The game has to create a pawn and one of the options is the (can't remember the exact term used) but let's say "personality" or "temperament."
After you do that you then get the explanation as to what that "temperament" actually does game play wise.
Unless of course I completely missed it in which case that's on me. But it seems that they really do have you make a decision as to how your pawn is to act and only after you are told that important bit of info.
But me not liking a thing, such as "not liking a thing" doesn't mean it's a flaw. It's just something I don't like.

Recommended GPU Specs according to Steam page: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
"The optimization is good on PC from most of my experience. On my RTX 4070 Ti I’m able to run Dragon’s Dogma 2 on absolutely maxed-out graphical settings at 1440p resolution with Ray Tracing on and maintain a stable 50+ FPS. With either DLSS SR or FidelityFX SR 3 that average jumps up to 60+ FPS while out exploring the world, and at the ‘High’ Graphics Quality preset the average is closer to 80 FPS. Even in the middle of flashy Special FX and particle-heavy fights the frames stayed consistent. However, an issue with performance becomes extremely noticeable – sometimes unbearably so – when in a major city like Vernworth."
According to the currently 14k+ reviews, 11k+ of them would about disagree with you regarding the optimization. You seem to be one of the lucky few who could afford a 4070 Ti which is why you probably gave this game a 9,5 in the first place. If you were like everyone else who had graphical problems and other gpu low framerate issues you wouldn't give it such a high review. The fact that you gave it that review without considering the woes everyone else is facing is, shameful. Please amend your review.
Game runs perfectly on my 3060 GTX potato pc. Consistent 60+ FPS (and yes drop to 40 in cities because its CPU bound, but that is like 1% of game )
As for microtransactions. Every Capcom game has it, and had it. People just discovered hot water ?
Capcom is a top-tier game developer, but they specialize in (the best of) some pretty niche genres that don't tend to overlap. I mean, their biggest IPs are a difficult boss rusher (Monster Hunter), a high skill ceiling character action game (DMC), and survival horror (DMC). I'm not surprised that many people are getting their first exposure here even if MH is their biggest IP.
The microtransaction stuff sounds like a bunch of virtue signalling to me. The Steam comments laughably stupid. There are plenty of dings for performance, but not a lot of the idiotic reactionary stuff on Steam.
PC is such a drag to game on anymore for me. It's always so negative. Consoles aren't utopian by any means, but the vibe is so much better. People are there to game. Finding gaming groups, for whatever I'm playing, is so easy. There are hubs where people share posts, screenshots, info. People are there to enjoy themselves, not hate life.

FPS snobbery is way more virtue signally than microtransactions controversy. Microtransactions are an actual issue. FPS is people screaming from the mountaintops that 30 fps is unplayable, despite it being the default people have literally played for decades.
Only having one save game, and not being able to restart, is hugely offputting for me.
Not being able to replay a game that I own is a massive flaw, bordering on criminal. It's something that didn't seem to happen much in the past, but I've had problems with nearly every game I own that uses this design. In two games (Riders Republic and Forza Horizons 4) my save game got corrupted, so I literally couldn't play the games any more. Both companies refused to fix the issue too.

It seems Capcom is going to add the ability to start over. I’d love to hear why that wasn’t included.

I have access to my dad's steam account, he has D1 installed. Should I buy/play that one first? We both played BG3 together, is DD the same?
I would definitely play the first DD before playing the sequel. Both DD and BG3 are fine RPG's, but not "the same", you may find the original DD somewhat lacking in terms of graphics for example.
I froze twice in open world. I read someone say there is way too much combat, I am not far into the game at all, just a few hours, but I have the opposite feeling so far. Getting money is difficult for me so far because never any Goblins around.
But, I am early in the game and my PC just barely met minimum requirements so difficult to hold it against them yet.
Travelling annoying but I haven't found a porticulis yet or wtv they are called to fast travel.

Here's what I believe to be a more balanced review and scoring for this game. The writer dealt with the monetization kerfuffle separate from the game review itself.
More of a redo than a sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a strange and wonderful action-RPG that bolsters the original’s strengths without addressing its weaknesses.
The Verdict: "Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a strange and wonderful game that seems haunted by some of yesteryear’s bugaboos.
It is a retelling and reimplementation of all of those wonderful ideas from the 2012 cult-classic, including an awesome dynamic world and some of the best combat in the genre that integrates a subtle but amazingly complex physics system.
On the other hand, its finicky ally AI, clunky climbing, choppy frame rate, and camera with a habit of going haywire at the worst times are all “features” I wish hadn’t been brought back for another round.
Even so, there’s an action-RPG here that’s richly rewarding and incomparable to its contemporaries if you can be patient with its quirks and open to embracing its hands-off open-world and quest designs."

I will never be good at games that require skill because I suck and I know this. I still want to play though. I remember someone on Steam chiding me about asking whether a game had an easy mode as I was responsible for cheapening games for others. It baffled me because it was a single player game and who exactly was I hurting. He said I was ruining it for those that accomplish stuff at hard and even harder difficulty. I don't get how me doing something in easy or story mode affects you. May be the ethos escapes me.
Still fuck them I will play how I want.
Don't you see? They want it to mean something when they say they finished a difficult game. They want it wear it as a badge of honor that they can brag about at parties. All those parties gamer nerds go to, where they pick up chicks by bragging about that super-hard game they beat.

That take is a bit, um, disturbing.
It's "ok" for people to accomplish things, whether that's winning a golf tournament, or a marathon, or a chess tournament, or a marathon hike, Or act in a play or ...
Finish a difficult video game.
People like to do things that are challenging, or that require learning things, or that are vastly different than what they normally do on a daily basis.
But here's the thing, you're insinuating that completing a difficult video game is tantamount to "the dorkening" without fully realizing you play video games and you comment on a video game site and by that very measure you would be considered one of "the dorkening's" sad inhabitants.
Funny how your participation in the video game hobby is perfectly fine but add a bit of challenge and those who enjoy that are people who go to nerd parties ...
Or maybe there are sad people in any hobby or activity as well as perfectly fine people who enjoy challenging themselves?
