This started with EA, followed by UBISoft, and now Epic (which was expected).
Oddly, and yeah, call me weird. Everytime Microsoft does this with thier products, I know it is all about the Data. Sharing all the personal information between these companies is in the deal (read those EULAs).
This is gaming today
And even though Sony has had their own data breeches, it's hard not to consider moves to them over MS. I mean I do nto believe Playstation or Nintendo share data to their game manufactures, it all goes to them and that is it (please educate me if I am wrong).
But microsoft products just seem like mass information vaccums now. I shouldn't have to think about that when wanting to play games.
Microsoft just keeps picking at straws hoping that something sticks or works. I'm just waiting until the inevitable happens and they go the route of SEGA.
I like having EA and Ubisoft games on Xbox, especially GamePass. I'm not so interested in other stores unless I could play the games natively on the console.
While this goal is okay, what I really want to see from Xbox:
1. Drop the extortion fee to play online. Do the right thing and set the trend.
2. Better management of first party titles and purchases, especially across hardware platforms. First party titles should be a single purchase (including DLC and microtrans) on their Microsoft Store and work on any Windows or Microsoft device if it can run on the hardware. They also need to work on the quality and cadence of their first party releases.
3. More incentive for truly independent developers on Steam and Epic to bring their games to Xbox as a platform. "ID@Xbox" needs more love. It doesn't have to be big money thrown at everyone, just make it more technically and financially reasonable to try and publish on the platform.
4. Improve the Xbox user experience. A company with a market cap they have should be embarrassed by the jankier user experience Xbox offers compared to PlayStation. They have the resources, now do it right.
Adding third party stores to Xbox solves none of those issues. In my opinion, this only serves as a preemptive legal move to keep the US and EU off their backs and from facing the same scrutiny Apple and Google Android are now facing with antritrust.
