    It sounds like they just added more gender locked classes, with those similar given opposite gender to their original counterpart. That's not really the same as removing the lock, especially if the similar classes are somewhat unique to each other as those in BDO are.

    I truly don't understand gender locking. Let me pick my gender! It makes no sense that some kind of class is restricted by gender. This is 2024, aren't all jobs, professions, and combat roles supposed to be open to all genders. Why should games be any different.

    There is nothing much to understand about it. For the most part it is an arbitrary decision, though it occasionally has more foundation such as mythological reference.

    What is wrong with gender locking? It's just a game. It maybe part of the lore. If you are upset about not be able to play your chosen gender in a specific class either play another class or play another gender or don't play the game at all. There really isn't anything here to be getting upset about.

    Hey don't scoff at mobile games. These days you can play them on the computer too and have all that gacha and p2w right on your computer and your big screen, all for free too.

    Nothing random about gender locking.

    Making weapons and armor that fits one body type saves time and money.

    It's why classes in these games are also race locked.

    It's a video game, for entertainment, your argument throws in Real Life scenarios. Make believe vs Reality! WTF.

    * We have the machismo alpha males complaining about playing female characters
    * We have the lgbtqia2s+complaining about not having enough representation
    * We have females complaining about not having enough female protagonist
    * We have the feminist complaining about the sexualization of women
    * Did I leave a group out?

    I am neither of these, just a fan of video games and MMOS.

    "Arbitrary" does not mean random. It's exactly the opposite, in fact. It is a conscious decision that may seem random because the reasoning behind the decision is not understood. It can sometimes imply that a decision was made capriciously, but it was still a conscious decision.

    There is of course nothing random about it. There is also nothing necessary about it. That advantages exist from doing so doesn't obligate that they be taken. As such, the choice to have gender lock or not is an arbitrary one.
