Bloxd. Yes, mock me if thou wisheth.
I am running my medieval-themed lobby on Bloxd. Yesterday and today - building medieval cathedral. Almost week of planning. Now - every day I work to complete it. Even if it has lesse capacity than i hoped for (70 people instead of 100). later there would be about 90 living houses, market, guild house, bank, palae of bishop, school, school dormitory and harbour. Oh yeah, also a majestic castle for local duke.
What a surprise. The company that has failed to address the state of it's servers for years (this is not a hyperbole: it's been going on for YEARS), fails to get their act together on a weekend. One of the very few 'extended' weekends of the year.
And look at the fourms; "life does not stop with LotRO", "this is a time for family, not gaming", ... yet 2 posts below they ask for extensions of silly festivals, discounts on level cap boosts, ...
I can't beleive the game has stooped to this level, yet people still make up excuses for the state of it.
I wonder if only half of those "time for family" community members actually spend even an hour with their family this weekend...

It's my fault. I just finished downloading the game to give it another go after many years away. As soon as the dl finished, the servers crashed.
I knew it!
You haven't missed anything. As soon as you criticize the poor communication policy in the official forum, you are attacked by the fanboys. About 25 minutes ago, they even deleted my login details and account. I can't log in anymore. Luckily, I've only spent about $30 so far...the company is dead to me.
Still offline. Well, one can read Lotro wiki, count Balrogs or write essay: "For thousand generations, the Sauron citizens were the guardians of peace and justice in Middle Earth. Before the dark times, before the Aragorn. A young traitor, named Gandalf the Evil, helped the Aragorn to destroy Sauron the Good. Aragorn was seduced by the dark side of One Ring..."...
And without lag, there would be no Lotro. Take lag and "Isengard bids five" from Lotro - what would remain? Only title

Bloxd. A clone of minecraft. Free, that's why I play there.
Piss poor servers they need to upgrade but these stingy bastards ain't doing it. Hope they fail completely and are forced to upgrade it. Only way you guys ever seeing an improvement is when it totally fails. Or people actually leave their games until it is fixed because it is impossible to play. I love Dungeons and Dragons Online but the lag really killed it for me so I left.

You get what you pay for. There is no way a free-to-play game is going to have professionally run servers. These games are cash cows, nothing more.
I never play their games for free. I always sub so it pisses me off when they don't spend it on the hardware.
You're a dolphin then. Spending in a F2P game is anathema for some, but like you I feal you have to put something in. I don't tend to sub, but that may be just down to the few F2P games I have played not having one!

It doesn't matter that you can pay. What matters is that you can play without paying, and that most of the revenue comes from cash shop items. That means the publisher/developer is incentivized to spend their resources creating new cosmetic items and DLC, not on server support.

I think that’s going a bit out on a limb.
If the servers don’t work the game doesn’t work and if the game doesn’t work then no purchases are being made regardless of new “cash shop items.”

As gamer I am sure when it comes to paying the servers always work.
Seriously does anyone here know how much it would cost them to upgrade? Is it so cost prohibitive because it's dumb that they just go on like this. I mean I am not lying I just got sick of the lag in DDO, it really got to a point where I said 'fuck this'.
WoW has been using Amazon cloud servers since 2020 and it's worked out well for them.
And with cloud servers you just pay for usage. I don't know what it is exactly (I don't own a business that uses AWS) but I've heard it's like $2000 for 1000 concurrent players per month.

I disagree. People who are not paying a sub will weather the storm and come back once the servers are up again. They do this because they don't really have much choice. If they want to play a better game with better server support, they have to pay a sub, which they are not willing to do.

People who are paying a sub will come back again as well. Not sure why you think they won’t.
It’s logical that that if servers are not up then no one is paying additional money.
Also, people are making a lot of assumptions on what they use for servers. Unless of course there is an article or quote somewhere?

that would be a shame as both games are still pretty fun games to play with alot of other players running around
