My speed reading was stumped when I saw Ashes of Creation and 'mobile' then I realised that it couldn't be. Indeed it wasn't. Slow down and read titles properly.

Given how long it takes these things to be built, whatever is MMO GOTY in 10 years is already in development.

I'm playing a very tiny game with a very tiny user base right now.
It has very limited PvP, it isn't nearly as ambitious as AoE.

The crying about PvP (from both sides) is deafening, even in my game which isn't nearly as complex and has 1/1000 of the people playing it that will be there when AoE launches.  Not nearly the hype either.

I hope AoE succeeds, but their first few months is going to be an epic poo storm worth watching.   If the developers are reading this, I'd recommend you get 100 dedicated players and pay them to play test for a full year first.

Lol, you have no idea... the hell you're entering.

The challenge is that usually the folks involved in those tests are either the biggest voices in the echo chamber, or the really hardcore PvP folks that accumulate exploits like currency and use the test as a time to fill up their bank (without reporting)

I remember when Darkfall launched there was a group of testers that knew exploits such as standing in acid pools for hours to build up your defenses and toughness, and keeping a battlespike in your backpack let you one shot people.

Alpha 2 testing is going to have around 100,000 people and it will be without an NDA so anyone watching Twitch streams will give their opinions as well. I think its safe to say it will be tested.

People crying about PvP is nothing new I think they expect it. People are ALREADY crying about it and its not even out. Their plan is to de-incentivize pvp outside of caravans/sieges/wars etc. It should be pretty easy to tweak the penalty numbers until it becomes rare enough to not be an issue imo.
