When City of Heroes shut down in November 2012 imagining that it would ever be back felt like a major dose of hopium, but not even a decade later, the game returned with the launch of City of Heroes: Homecoming in May 2019.

There have been a lot of changes made since the fall of Paragon City. The game HC is running is like CoX but it is not the same game. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it is a lot of fun. But any that lived and breathed the original need to go in without the expectation of being rejoined with their old friend.

Amazing to hear. This is how abandoned games should be handled. Handed off to passionate people who will care for them.

Homecoming is so much better than original City of Heroes.

The Homecoming team has put in an incredible effort to fix and balance things that Cryptic/Paragon didn't have time for or never tried.

Mastermind is one of my favorite classes of any MMO and in Homecoming they are actually useful now.

Which is why it is totally unlike the traditional developer-publisher relationship. :D

This is a good and a bad thing.

It's good that they are under no pressure to meet certain quarterly revenue thresholds but it's also a bad thing in that Homecoming can only get money through donations, they can't sell anything.

Actually, I started feeling that way back in the original, after they introduced Enhancement Diversification, or ED. They nerfed how slotting works and characters were never the same.

In Homecoming it plays about the same as CoH did after ED. So I went back and re-created a bunch of my originals and have had a blast. It is really the same game, except better.
