Oh joy, as if PvP was not already stupidly chaotic enough, introduce scribing, a pay to win feature I may add, to the mix.
Ball groups already run rampant using echoing vigor; stacked hots; and expedition to just run over smaller groups and solo players. Now they can add more group focused heals and other mechanics making them near even more obnoxious.
I swear these developers do not play their own game nor when devising these systems and gear sets, thoroughly test nor anticipate the unintended consequences of there effects and synergistic powers.
If I believed in conspiracy theories, I would think Zos wanted to destroy the PvP environment, and rid themselves of what they perceive as a resource drain by players that do not, on the whole contribute to their crown store or subscription service.
At best, I do feel they are clueless and have broken promises to really overhaul the PvP system.
Scribing is part of the Gold Road expansion, not an addition to the main game as some newly added features are. While game expansions are often paid for they are not generally considered pay to win.
To clarify why I think this feature is pay to win, I proffer this definition, of which, there are several variations: "a situation where the player can buy in-game content or in-game changes, with real money, that give the player a game play advantage."
Note the 'in-game content' part. And the very fact that this feature is NOT being added as part of the main game, but requires payment to access it seems to fit the above definition.
Regarding PvE I agree it should add a degree of uniqueness to the otherwise common builds, and has been requested by the player community for a while now.
Regarding the PvP aspect, I fear players not purchasing the expansion, might find they are at a disadvantage to those who do buy it. Also, there is the concern, like other sets and skill changes, unintended consequences may arise, since it has been demonstrated that the devs do not thoroughly test and have had a habit of disregarding test server feedback.
